New Living Translation (NLT) New International Version (NIV)
For the choir director: A psalm of David, regarding the time Doeg the Edomite told Saul that Ahimelech had given refuge to David. You call yourself a hero, do you? Why boast about this crime of yours, you who have disgraced God's people? 1 Why do you boast of evil, you mighty man? Why do you boast all day long, you who are a disgrace in the eyes of God?
All day long you plot destruction. Your tongue cuts like a sharp razor; you're an expert at telling lies. 2 Your tongue plots destruction; it is like a sharpened razor, you who practice deceit.
You love evil more than good and lies more than truth. Interlude 3 You love evil rather than good, falsehood rather than speaking the truth. "Selah"
You love to say things that harm others, you liar! 4 You love every harmful word, O you deceitful tongue!
But God will strike you down once and for all. He will pull you from your home and drag you from the land of the living. Interlude 5 Surely God will bring you down to everlasting ruin: He will snatch you up and tear you from your tent; he will uproot you from the land of the living. "Selah"
The righteous will see it and be amazed. They will laugh and say, 6 The righteous will see and fear; they will laugh at him, saying,
"Look what happens to mighty warriors who do not trust in God. They trust their wealth instead and grow more and more bold in their wickedness." 7 "Here now is the man who did not make God his stronghold but trusted in his great wealth and grew strong by destroying others!"
But I am like an olive tree, thriving in the house of God. I trust in God's unfailing love forever and ever. 8 But I am like an olive tree flourishing in the house of God; I trust in God's unfailing love for ever and ever.
I will praise you forever, O God, for what you have done. I will wait for your mercies in the presence of your people. 9 I will praise you forever for what you have done; in your name I will hope, for your name is good. I will praise you in the presence of your saints.
