Hebrew Names Version (HNV) New International Version (NIV)
<> God, why have you rejected us forever? Why does your anger smolder against the sheep of your pasture? 1 Why have you rejected us forever, O God? Why does your anger smolder against the sheep of your pasture?
Remember your congregation, which you purchased of old, Which you have redeemed to be the tribe of your inheritance; Mount Tziyon, in which you have lived. 2 Remember the people you purchased of old, the tribe of your inheritance, whom you redeemed-- Mount Zion, where you dwelt.
Lift up your feet to the perpetual ruins, All the evil that the enemy has done in the sanctuary. 3 Turn your steps toward these everlasting ruins, all this destruction the enemy has brought on the sanctuary.
Your adversaries have roared in the midst of your assembly. They have set up their standards as signs. 4 Your foes roared in the place where you met with us; they set up their standards as signs.
They behaved like men wielding axes, Cutting through a thicket of trees. 5 They behaved like men wielding axes to cut through a thicket of trees.
Now all its carved work They break down with hatchet and hammers. 6 They smashed all the carved paneling with their axes and hatchets.
They have burned your sanctuary to the ground. They have profaned the dwelling-place of your Name. 7 They burned your sanctuary to the ground; they defiled the dwelling place of your Name.
They said in their heart, "We will crush them completely." They have burned up all the places in the land where God was worshiped. 8 They said in their hearts, "We will crush them completely!" They burned every place where God was worshiped in the land.
We see no miraculous signs. There is no longer any prophet, Neither is there among us anyone who knows how long. 9 We are given no miraculous signs; no prophets are left, and none of us knows how long this will be.
How long, God, shall the adversary reproach? Shall the enemy blaspheme your name forever? 10 How long will the enemy mock you, O God? Will the foe revile your name forever?
Why do you draw back your hand, even your right hand? Take it out of your pocket and consume them! 11 Why do you hold back your hand, your right hand? Take it from the folds of your garment and destroy them!
Yet God is my King of old, Working salvation in the midst of the eretz. 12 But you, O God, are my king from of old; you bring salvation upon the earth.
You divided the sea by your strength. You broke the heads of the sea monsters in the waters. 13 It was you who split open the sea by your power; you broke the heads of the monster in the waters.
You broke the heads of Livyatan in pieces. You gave him as food to people and desert creatures. 14 It was you who crushed the heads of Leviathan and gave him as food to the creatures of the desert.
You opened up spring and stream. You dried up mighty rivers. 15 It was you who opened up springs and streams; you dried up the ever flowing rivers.
The day is yours, the night is also yours. You have prepared the light and the sun. 16 The day is yours, and yours also the night; you established the sun and moon.
You have set all the boundaries of the eretz. You have made summer and winter. 17 It was you who set all the boundaries of the earth; you made both summer and winter.
Remember this, that the enemy has mocked you, LORD. Foolish people have blasphemed your name. 18 Remember how the enemy has mocked you, O LORD, how foolish people have reviled your name.
Don't deliver the soul of your dove to wild beasts. Don't forget the life of your poor forever. 19 Do not hand over the life of your dove to wild beasts; do not forget the lives of your afflicted people forever.
Honor your covenant, For haunts of violence fill the dark places of the eretz. 20 Have regard for your covenant, because haunts of violence fill the dark places of the land.
Don't let the oppressed return ashamed. Let the poor and needy praise your name. 21 Do not let the oppressed retreat in disgrace; may the poor and needy praise your name.
Arise, God! Plead your own cause. Remember how the foolish man mocks you all day. 22 Rise up, O God, and defend your cause; remember how fools mock you all day long.
Don't forget the voice of your adversaries. The tumult of those who rise up against you ascends continually. 23 Do not ignore the clamor of your adversaries, the uproar of your enemies, which rises continually.
