The Message (MSG) New International Version (NIV)
I'm thanking you, God, from a full heart, I'm writing the book on your wonders. 1 I will praise you, O LORD, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonders.
I'm whistling, laughing, and jumping for joy; I'm singing your song, High God. 2 I will be glad and rejoice in you; I will sing praise to your name, O Most High.
The day my enemies turned tail and ran, they stumbled on you and fell on their faces. 3 My enemies turn back; they stumble and perish before you.
You took over and set everything right; when I needed you, you were there, taking charge. 4 For you have upheld my right and my cause; you have sat on your throne, judging righteously.
You blow the whistle on godless nations; you throw dirty players out of the game, wipe their names right off the roster. 5 You have rebuked the nations and destroyed the wicked; you have blotted out their name for ever and ever.
Enemies disappear from the sidelines, their reputation trashed, their names erased from the halls of fame. 6 Endless ruin has overtaken the enemy, you have uprooted their cities; even the memory of them has perished.
God holds the high center, he sees and sets the world's mess right. 7 The LORD reigns forever; he has established his throne for judgment.
He decides what is right for us earthlings, gives people their just deserts. 8 He will judge the world in righteousness; he will govern the peoples with justice.
God's a safe-house for the battered, a sanctuary during bad times. 9 The LORD is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble.
The moment you arrive, you relax; you're never sorry you knocked. 10 Those who know your name will trust in you, for you, LORD, have never forsaken those who seek you.
Sing your songs to Zion-dwelling God, tell his stories to everyone you meet: 11 Sing praises to the LORD, enthroned in Zion; proclaim among the nations what he has done.
How he tracks down killers yet keeps his eye on us, registers every whimper and moan. 12 For he who avenges blood remembers; he does not ignore the cry of the afflicted.
Be kind to me, God; I've been kicked around long enough. Once you've pulled me back from the gates of death, 13 O LORD, see how my enemies persecute me! Have mercy and lift me up from the gates of death,
I'll write the book on Hallelujahs; on the corner of Main and First I'll hold a street meeting; I'll be the song leader; we'll fill the air with salvation songs. 14 that I may declare your praises in the gates of the Daughter of Zion and there rejoice in your salvation.
They're trapped, those godless countries, in the very snares they set, Their feet all tangled in the net they spread. 15 The nations have fallen into the pit they have dug; their feet are caught in the net they have hidden.
They have no excuse; the way God works is well-known. The cunning machinery made by the wicked has maimed their own hands. 16 The LORD is known by his justice; the wicked are ensnared by the work of their hands. "Higgaion." "Selah"
The wicked bought a one-way ticket to hell. 17 The wicked return to the grave, all the nations that forget God.
No longer will the poor be nameless - no more humiliation for the humble. 18 But the needy will not always be forgotten, nor the hope of the afflicted ever perish.
Up, God! Aren't you fed up with their empty strutting? Expose these grand pretensions! 19 Arise, O LORD, let not man triumph; let the nations be judged in your presence.
Shake them up, God! Show them how silly they look. 20 Strike them with terror, O LORD; let the nations know they are but men. "Selah"
