1 Boaz monta ? la porte, et s'y arr?ta. Or voici, celui qui avait droit de rachat, et dont Boaz avait parl?, vint ? passer. Boaz lui dit: Approche, reste ici, toi un tel. Et il s'approcha, et s'arr?ta.

1 Meanwhile Boaz went up to the town gate and sat there. When the kinsman-redeemer he had mentioned came along, Boaz said, "Come over here, my friend, and sit down." So he went over and sat down.

2 Boaz prit alors dix hommes parmi les anciens de la ville, et il dit: Asseyez-vous ici. Et ils s'assirent.

2 Boaz took ten of the elders of the town and said, "Sit here," and they did so.
|
|
3 Puis il dit ? celui qui avait le droit de rachat: Naomi, revenue du pays de Moab, a vendu la pi?ce de terre qui appartenait ? notre fr?re ?lim?lec.

3 Then he said to the kinsman-redeemer, "Naomi, who has come back from Moab, is selling the piece of land that belonged to our brother Elimelech.

4 J'ai cru devoir t'en informer, et te dire: Acquiers-la, en pr?sence des habitants et en pr?sence des anciens de mon peuple. Si tu veux racheter, rach?te; mais si tu ne veux pas, d?clare-le-moi, afin que je le sache. Car il n'y a personne avant toi qui ait le droit de rachat, et je l'ai apr?s toi. Et il r?pondit: je rach?terai.

4 I thought I should bring the matter to your attention and suggest that you buy it in the presence of these seated here and in the presence of the elders of my people. If you will redeem it, do so. But if you will not, tell me, so I will know. For no one has the right to do it except you, and I am next in line." "I will redeem it," he said.

5 Boaz dit: Le jour o? tu acquerras le champ de la main de Naomi, tu l'acquerras en m?me temps de Ruth la Moabite, femme du d?funt, pour relever le nom du d?funt dans son h?ritage.

5 Then Boaz said, "On the day you buy the land from Naomi and from Ruth the Moabitess, you acquire the dead man's widow, in order to maintain the name of the dead with his property."

6 Et celui qui avait le droit de rachat r?pondit: Je ne puis pas racheter pour mon compte, crainte de d?truire mon h?ritage; prends pour toi mon droit de rachat, car je ne puis pas racheter.

6 At this, the kinsman-redeemer said, "Then I cannot redeem it because I might endanger my own estate. You redeem it yourself. I cannot do it."

7 Autrefois en Isra?l, pour valider une affaire quelconque relative ? un rachat ou ? un ?change, l'un ?tait son soulier et le donnait ? l'autre: cela servait de t?moignage en Isra?l.

7 (Now in earlier times in Israel, for the redemption and transfer of property to become final, one party took off his sandal and gave it to the other. This was the method of legalizing transactions in Israel.)

8 Celui qui avait le droit de rachat dit donc ? Boaz: Acquiers pour ton compte! Et il ?ta son soulier.

8 So the kinsman-redeemer said to Boaz, "Buy it yourself." And he removed his sandal.
|
|
9 Alors Boaz dit aux anciens et ? tout le peuple: Vous ?tes t?moins aujourd'hui que j'ai acquis de la main de Naomi tout ce qui appartenait ? ?lim?lec, ? Kiljon et ? Machlon,

9 Then Boaz announced to the elders and all the people, "Today you are witnesses that I have bought from Naomi all the property of Elimelech, Kilion and Mahlon.

10 et que je me suis ?galement acquis pour femme Ruth la Moabite, femme de Machlon, pour relever le nom du d?funt dans son h?ritage, et afin que le nom du d?funt ne soit point retranch? d'entre ses fr?res et de la porte de son lieu. Vous en ?tes t?moins aujourd'hui!

10 I have also acquired Ruth the Moabitess, Mahlon's widow, as my wife, in order to maintain the name of the dead with his property, so that his name will not disappear from among his family or from the town records. Today you are witnesses!"

11 Tout le peuple qui ?tait ? la porte et les anciens dirent: Nous en sommes t?moins! Que l'?ternel rende la femme qui entre dans ta maison semblable ? Rachel et ? L?a, qui toutes les deux ont b?ti la maison d'Isra?l! Manifeste ta force dans ?phrata, et fais-toi un nom dans Bethl?hem!

11 Then the elders and all those at the gate said, "We are witnesses. May the LORD make the woman who is coming into your home like Rachel and Leah, who together built up the house of Israel. May you have standing in Ephrathah and be famous in Bethlehem.

12 Puisse la post?rit? que l'?ternel te donnera par cette jeune femme rendre ta maison semblable ? la maison de P?rets, qui fut enfant? ? Juda par Tamar!

12 Through the offspring the LORD gives you by this young woman, may your family be like that of Perez, whom Tamar bore to Judah."

13 Boaz prit Ruth, qui devint sa femme, et il alla vers elle. L'?ternel permit ? Ruth de concevoir, et elle enfanta un fils.
|
13 So Boaz took Ruth and she became his wife. Then he went to her, and the LORD enabled her to conceive, and she gave birth to a son.
|
|
14 Les femmes dirent ? Naomi: B?ni soit l'?ternel, qui ne t'a point laiss? manquer aujourd'hui d'un homme ayant droit de rachat, et dont le nom sera c?l?br? en Isra?l!
|
14 The women said to Naomi: "Praise be to the LORD, who this day has not left you without a kinsman-redeemer. May he become famous throughout Israel!
|
|
15 Cet enfant restaurera ton ?me, et sera le soutien de ta vieillesse; car ta belle-fille, qui t'aime, l'a enfant?, elle qui vaut mieux pour toi que sept fils.
|
15 He will renew your life and sustain you in your old age. For your daughter-in-law, who loves you and who is better to you than seven sons, has given him birth."
|
|
16 Naomi prit l'enfant et le mit sur son sein, et elle fut sa garde.
|
16 Then Naomi took the child, laid him in her lap and cared for him.
|
|
17 Les voisines lui donn?rent un nom, en disant: Un fils est n? ? Naomi! Et elles l'appel?rent Obed. Ce fut le p?re d'Isa? p?re de David.

17 The women living there said, "Naomi has a son." And they named him Obed. He was the father of Jesse, the father of David.

18 Voici la post?rit? de P?rets. P?rets engendra Hetsron;

18 This, then, is the family line of Perez: Perez was the father of Hezron,
|

19 Hetsron engendra Ram; Ram engendra Amminadab;
|
19 Hezron the father of Ram, Ram the father of Amminadab,
|

20 Amminadab engendra Nachschon; Nachschon engendra Salmon;
|
20 Amminadab the father of Nahshon, Nahshon the father of Salmon,
|
|
21 Salmon engendra Boaz; Boaz engendra Obed;
|
21 Salmon the father of Boaz, Boaz the father of Obed,
|
|
22 Obed engendra Isa?; et Isa? engendra David.

22 Obed the father of Jesse, and Jesse the father of David.
