Revised Standard Version (RSV) New International Version (NIV)
To them he presented himself alive after his passion by many proofs, appearing to them during forty days, and speaking of the kingdom of God. 3 After his suffering, he showed himself to these men and gave many convincing proofs that he was alive. He appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God.
And while staying with them he charged them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, which, he said, "you heard from me, 4 On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: "Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about.
for John baptized with water, but before many days you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit." 5 For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit."
So when they had come together, they asked him, "Lord, will you at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?" 6 So when they met together, they asked him, "Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?"
He said to them, "It is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has fixed by his own authority. 7 He said to them: "It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority.
But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Sama'ria and to the end of the earth." 8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."
And when he had said this, as they were looking on, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight. 9 After he said this, he was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight.
And while they were gazing into heaven as he went, behold, two men stood by them in white robes, 10 They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them.
and said, "Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into heaven? This Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven." 11 "Men of Galilee," they said, "why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven."
