But Peter, standing with the eleven, raised his voice and addressed them, "Men of Judea and all who live in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and listen to what I say. 14 Then Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice and addressed the crowd: "Fellow Jews and all of you who live in Jerusalem, let me explain this to you; listen carefully to what I say.
Indeed, these are not drunk, as you suppose, for it is only nine o'clock in the morning. 15 These men are not drunk, as you suppose. It's only nine in the morning!
No, this is what was spoken through the prophet Joel: 16 No, this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel:
"In the last days it will be, God declares, that I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams. 17 " 'In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams.
Even upon my slaves, both men and women, in those days I will pour out my Spirit; and they shall prophesy. 18 Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy.
And I will show portents in the heaven above and signs on the earth below, blood, and fire, and smoky mist. 19 I will show wonders in the heaven above and signs on the earth below, blood and fire and billows of smoke.
The sun shall be turned to darkness and the moon to blood, before the coming of the Lord's great and glorious day. 20 The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and glorious day of the Lord.
Then everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.' 21 And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.'
"You that are Israelites, listen to what I have to say: Jesus of Nazareth, a man attested to you by God with deeds of power, wonders, and signs that God did through him among you, as you yourselves know— 22 "Men of Israel, listen to this: Jesus of Nazareth was a man accredited by God to you by miracles, wonders and signs, which God did among you through him, as you yourselves know.
this man, handed over to you according to the definite plan and foreknowledge of God, you crucified and killed by the hands of those outside the law. 23 This man was handed over to you by God's set purpose and foreknowledge; and you, with the help of wicked men, put him to death by nailing him to the cross.
But God raised him up, having freed him from death, because it was impossible for him to be held in its power. 24 But God raised him from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him.
For David says concerning him, "I saw the Lord always before me, for he is at my right hand so that I will not be shaken; 25 David said about him: " 'I saw the Lord always before me. Because he is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.
therefore my heart was glad, and my tongue rejoiced; moreover my flesh will live in hope. 26 Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices; my body also will live in hope,
For you will not abandon my soul to Hades, or let your Holy One experience corruption. 27 because you will not abandon me to the grave, nor will you let your Holy One see decay.
You have made known to me the ways of life; you will make me full of gladness with your presence.' 28 You have made known to me the paths of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence.'
"Fellow Israelites, I may say to you confidently of our ancestor David that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us to this day. 29 "Brothers, I can tell you confidently that the patriarch David died and was buried, and his tomb is here to this day.
Since he was a prophet, he knew that God had sworn with an oath to him that he would put one of his descendants on his throne. 30 But he was a prophet and knew that God had promised him on oath that he would place one of his descendants on his throne.
Foreseeing this, David spoke of the resurrection of the Messiah, saying, "He was not abandoned to Hades, nor did his flesh experience corruption.' 31 Seeing what was ahead, he spoke of the resurrection of the Christ, that he was not abandoned to the grave, nor did his body see decay.
This Jesus God raised up, and of that all of us are witnesses. 32 God has raised this Jesus to life, and we are all witnesses of the fact.
Being therefore exalted at the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, he has poured out this that you both see and hear. 33 Exalted to the right hand of God, he has received from the Father the promised Holy Spirit and has poured out what you now see and hear.
For David did not ascend into the heavens, but he himself says, "The Lord said to my Lord, "Sit at my right hand, 34 For David did not ascend to heaven, and yet he said, " 'The Lord said to my Lord: "Sit at my right hand
until I make your enemies your footstool." ' 35 until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet." '
Therefore let the entire house of Israel know with certainty that God has made him both Lord and Messiah, this Jesus whom you crucified." 36 "Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ."
Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and to the other apostles, "Brothers, what should we do?" 37 When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, "Brothers, what shall we do?"
Peter said to them, "Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ so that your sins may be forgiven; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 38 Peter replied, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
For the promise is for you, for your children, and for all who are far away, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to him." 39 The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off--for all whom the Lord our God will call."
And he testified with many other arguments and exhorted them, saying, "Save yourselves from this corrupt generation." 40 With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, "Save yourselves from this corrupt generation."
