New Revised Standard (NRS) New International Version (NIV)
And Saul approved of their killing him. That day a severe persecution began against the church in Jerusalem, and all except the apostles were scattered throughout the countryside of Judea and Samaria. 1 And Saul was there, giving approval to his death. On that day a great persecution broke out against the church at Jerusalem, and all except the apostles were scattered throughout Judea and Samaria.
Devout men buried Stephen and made loud lamentation over him. 2 Godly men buried Stephen and mourned deeply for him.
But Saul was ravaging the church by entering house after house; dragging off both men and women, he committed them to prison. 3 But Saul began to destroy the church. Going from house to house, he dragged off men and women and put them in prison.
Now those who were scattered went from place to place, proclaiming the word. 4 Those who had been scattered preached the word wherever they went.
