New Living Translation (NLT) New International Version (NIV)
Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits at God's right hand in the place of honor and power. 1 Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God.
Let heaven fill your thoughts. Do not think only about things down here on earth. 2 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.
For you died when Christ died, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God. 3 For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.
And when Christ, who is your real life, is revealed to the whole world, you will share in all his glory. 4 When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.
So put to death the sinful, earthly things lurking within you. Have nothing to do with sexual sin, impurity, lust, and shameful desires. Don't be greedy for the good things of this life, for that is idolatry. 5 Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry.
God's terrible anger will come upon those who do such things. 6 Because of these, the wrath of God is coming.
You used to do them when your life was still part of this world. 7 You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived.
But now is the time to get rid of anger, rage, malicious behavior, slander, and dirty language. 8 But now you must rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips.
Don't lie to each other, for you have stripped off your old evil nature and all its wicked deeds. 9 Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices
In its place you have clothed yourselves with a brand-new nature that is continually being renewed as you learn more and more about Christ, who created this new nature within you. 10 and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.
In this new life, it doesn't matter if you are a Jew or a Gentile, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbaric, uncivilized, slave, or free. Christ is all that matters, and he lives in all of us. 11 Here there is no Greek or Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave or free, but Christ is all, and is in all.
Since God chose you to be the holy people whom he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. 12 Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.
You must make allowance for each other's faults and forgive the person who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others. 13 Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.
And the most important piece of clothing you must wear is love. Love is what binds us all together in perfect harmony. 14 And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.
And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body you are all called to live in peace. And always be thankful. 15 Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.
Let the words of Christ, in all their richness, live in your hearts and make you wise. Use his words to teach and counsel each other. Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts. 16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God.
And whatever you do or say, let it be as a representative of the Lord Jesus, all the while giving thanks through him to God the Father. 17 And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
