Next, we turned around and headed back toward the wilderness along the Reed Sea road, exactly as the LORD instructed me. We traveled all around Mount Seir for a long time. 1 Then we turned back and set out toward the desert along the route to the Red Sea, as the LORD had directed me. For a long time we made our way around the hill country of Seir.
Eventually the LORD said: 2 Then the LORD said to me,
You've been traveling around this mountain long enough. Head north. 3 "You have made your way around this hill country long enough; now turn north.
Command the people as follows: You are about to enter into the territory of your relatives who live in Seir: Esau's descendants. They will be afraid of you, so watch yourselves most carefully. 4 Give the people these orders: 'You are about to pass through the territory of your brothers the descendants of Esau, who live in Seir. They will be afraid of you, but be very careful.
Don't fight with them because I will not give the tiniest parcel of their land to you. I have given Mount Seir to Esau's family as their property. 5 Do not provoke them to war, for I will not give you any of their land, not even enough to put your foot on. I have given Esau the hill country of Seir as his own.
Of course you may buy food from them with money so you can eat, and also water with money so you can drink. 6 You are to pay them in silver for the food you eat and the water you drink.' "
