1 I, Paul, am a prisoner of Christ Jesus because of my preaching to you Gentiles. 1 For this reason I, Paul, the prisoner of Christ Jesus for the sake of you Gentiles--
2 As you already know, God has given me this special ministry of announcing his favor to you Gentiles. 2 Surely you have heard about the administration of God's grace that was given to me for you,
3 As I briefly mentioned earlier in this letter, God himself revealed his secret plan to me. 3 that is, the mystery made known to me by revelation, as I have already written briefly.
4 As you read what I have written, you will understand what I know about this plan regarding Christ. 4 In reading this, then, you will be able to understand my insight into the mystery of Christ,
5 God did not reveal it to previous generations, but now he has revealed it by the Holy Spirit to his holy apostles and prophets. 5 which was not made known to men in other generations as it has now been revealed by the Spirit to God's holy apostles and prophets.
6 And this is the secret plan: The Gentiles have an equal share with the Jews in all the riches inherited by God's children. Both groups have believed the Good News, and both are part of the same body and enjoy together the promise of blessings through Christ Jesus. 6 This mystery is that through the gospel the Gentiles are heirs together with Israel, members together of one body, and sharers together in the promise in Christ Jesus.
7 By God's special favor and mighty power, I have been given the wonderful privilege of serving him by spreading this Good News. 7 I became a servant of this gospel by the gift of God's grace given me through the working of his power.
8 Just think! Though I did nothing to deserve it, and though I am the least deserving Christian there is, I was chosen for this special joy of telling the Gentiles about the endless treasures available to them in Christ. 8 Although I am less than the least of all God's people, this grace was given me: to preach to the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ,
9 I was chosen to explain to everyone this plan that God, the Creator of all things, had kept secret from the beginning. 9 and to make plain to everyone the administration of this mystery, which for ages past was kept hidden in God, who created all things.
10 God's purpose was to show his wisdom in all its rich variety to all the rulers and authorities in the heavenly realms. They will see this when Jews and Gentiles are joined together in his church. 10 His intent was that now, through the church, the manifold wisdom of God should be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly realms,
11 This was his plan from all eternity, and it has now been carried out through Christ Jesus our Lord. 11 according to his eternal purpose which he accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord.
12 Because of Christ and our faith in him, we can now come fearlessly into God's presence, assured of his glad welcome. 12 In him and through faith in him we may approach God with freedom and confidence.
13 So please don't despair because of what they are doing to me here. It is for you that I am suffering, so you should feel honored and encouraged. 13 I ask you, therefore, not to be discouraged because of my sufferings for you, which are your glory.
14 When I think of the wisdom and scope of God's plan, I fall to my knees and pray to the Father, 14 For this reason I kneel before the Father,
15 the Creator of everything in heaven and on earth. 15 from whom his whole family in heaven and on earth derives its name.
16 I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will give you mighty inner strength through his Holy Spirit. 16 I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being,
17 And I pray that Christ will be more and more at home in your hearts as you trust in him. May your roots go down deep into the soil of God's marvelous love. 17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love,
18 And may you have the power to understand, as all God's people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love really is. 18 may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ,
19 May you experience the love of Christ, though it is so great you will never fully understand it. Then you will be filled with the fullness of life and power that comes from God. 19 and to know this love that surpasses knowledge--that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.
20 Now glory be to God! By his mighty power at work within us, he is able to accomplish infinitely more than we would ever dare to ask or hope. 20 Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us,
21 May he be given glory in the church and in Christ Jesus forever and ever through endless ages. Amen. 21 to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.
