Lexham English Bible (LEB) New International Version (NIV)
Therefore become imitators of God, as beloved children, 1 Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children
and live in love, just as also Christ loved us, and gave himself for us an offering and sacrifice to God for a fragrant smell. 2 and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.
But sexual immorality, and all uncleanness, or greediness, must not even be named among you (as is fitting for saints), 3 But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God's holy people.
and obscenity, and foolish talk, or coarse jesting (which [are] not proper), but rather thanksgiving. 4 Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving.
For this you know {for certain}, that every sexually immoral [person], or unclean [person], or greedy [person] (who is an idolater), does not have an inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God. 5 For of this you can be sure: No immoral, impure or greedy person--such a man is an idolater--has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.
Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these [things] the wrath of God is coming on the sons of disobedience. 6 Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of such things God's wrath comes on those who are disobedient.
Therefore do not be sharers with them, 7 Therefore do not be partners with them.
for you were formerly darkness, but now [you are] light in the Lord. Live like children of light 8 For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light
(for the fruit of the light [is] in all goodness and righteousness and truth), 9 (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth)
trying to learn what is well-pleasing to the Lord. 10 and find out what pleases the Lord.
And do not participate in the unfruitful deeds of darkness, but rather even expose [them]. 11 Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them.
For it is shameful even to speak [about] the things being [done] by them in secret, 12 For it is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret.
but all [things] exposed by the light are made visible, 13 But everything exposed by the light becomes visible,
for everything made visible is light. Therefore it says, Wake up, sleeper, and rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you. 14 for it is light that makes everything visible. This is why it is said: "Wake up, O sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you."
Therefore, consider carefully how you live, not as unwise but as wise, 15 Be very careful, then, how you live--not as unwise but as wise,
making the most of the time because the days are evil. 16 making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.
Because of this do not become foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord [is]. 17 Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord's will is.
And do not be drunk with wine (in which is dissipation), but be filled by the Spirit, 18 Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit.
speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and singing praise in your heart to the Lord, 19 Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord,
giving thanks always for all [things] in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to the God and Father, 20 always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
being subject to one another {out of reverence for} Christ 21 Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.
--wives to their own husbands as to the Lord, 22 Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord.
because [the] husband is [the] head of the wife, as also Christ [is the] head of the church (he himself [being the] Savior of the body). 23 For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior.
But as the church is subject to Christ, thus also wives [should be subject] to their husbands in everything. 24 Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.
Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for her; 25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her
in order that he might sanctify her by cleansing [her] with the washing of water by the word; 26 to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word,
in order that he might present to himself the church glorious, not having a spot or wrinkle or any such [thing], but that she may be holy and blameless. 27 and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless.
Thus also husbands ought to love their own wives as their own bodies. The one who loves his own wife loves himself. 28 In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself.
For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as also Christ [does] the church, 29 After all, no one ever hated his own body, but he feeds and cares for it, just as Christ does the church--
because we are members of his body. 30 for we are members of his body.
"For this [reason] a man will leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two will become one flesh." 31 "For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh."
(This mystery is great, but I am speaking with reference to Christ and the church.) 32 This is a profound mystery--but I am talking about Christ and the church.
Only you also, each one [of you], must thus love his own wife as himself, and the wife {must respect} her husband. 33 However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.
