Then God said all these words: t 1 And God spoke all these words:
"I am ADONAI your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the abode of slavery. c 2 "I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.

You are not to bow down to them or serve them; for I, ADONAI your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sins of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, 5 You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me,

"Remember the day, Shabbat, to set it apart for God. 8 "Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy.
You have six days to labor and do all your work, 9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work,

For in six days, ADONAI made heaven and earth, the sea and everything in them; but on the seventh day he rested. This is why ADONAI blessed the day, Shabbat, and separated it for himself. v 11 For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.
"Honor your father and mother, so that you may live long in the land which ADONAI your God is giving you. u 12 "Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the LORD your God is giving you.

"Do not covet your neighbor's house; do not covet your neighbor's wife, his male or female slave, his ox, his donkey or anything that belongs to your neighbor." 17 "You shall not covet your neighbor's house. You shall not covet your neighbor's wife, or his manservant or maidservant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor."
All the people experienced the thunder, the lightning, the sound of the shofar, and the mountain smoking. When the people saw it, they trembled. Standing at a distance, 18 When the people saw the thunder and lightning and heard the trumpet and saw the mountain in smoke, they trembled with fear. They stayed at a distance
they said to Moshe, "You, speak with us; and we will listen. But don't let God speak with us, or we will die." 19 and said to Moses, "Speak to us yourself and we will listen. But do not have God speak to us or we will die."
Moshe answered the people, "Don't be afraid, because God has come only to test you and make you fear him, so that you won't commit sins." 20 Moses said to the people, "Do not be afraid. God has come to test you, so that the fear of God will be with you to keep you from sinning."
So the people stood at a distance, but Moshe approached the thick darkness where God was. (A: Maftir) 21 The people remained at a distance, while Moses approached the thick darkness where God was.
ADONAI said to Moshe, "Here is what you are to say to the people of Isra'el: 'You yourselves have seen that I spoke with you from heaven. 22 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Tell the Israelites this: 'You have seen for yourselves that I have spoken to you from heaven:
You are not to make with me gods of silver, nor are you to make gods of gold for yourselves. (S: Maftir) 23 Do not make any gods to be alongside me; do not make for yourselves gods of silver or gods of gold.
For me you need make only an altar of earth; on it you will sacrifice your burnt offerings, peace offerings, sheep, goats and cattle. In every place where I cause my name to be mentioned, I will come to you and bless you. 24 " 'Make an altar of earth for me and sacrifice on it your burnt offerings and fellowship offerings, your sheep and goats and your cattle. Wherever I cause my name to be honored, I will come to you and bless you.
If you do make me an altar of stone, you are not to build it of cut stones; for if you use a tool on it, you profane it. 25 If you make an altar of stones for me, do not build it with dressed stones, for you will defile it if you use a tool on it.
Likewise, you are not to use steps to go up to my altar; so that you won't be indecently uncovered.'" 26 And do not go up to my altar on steps, lest your nakedness be exposed on it.'
