The Darby Translation (DBY) New International Version (NIV)
And God spoke all these words, saying, 1 And God spoke all these words:
I am Jehovah thy God, who have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. 2 "I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.
Thou shalt have no other gods before me. 3 "You shall have no other gods before me.
Thou shalt not make thyself any graven image, or any form of what is in the heavens above, or what is in the earth beneath, or what is in the waters under the earth: 4 "You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below.
thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them; for I, Jehovah thy God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the sons to the third and to the fourth [generation] of them that hate me, 5 You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me,
and shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me and keep my commandments. 6 but showing love to a thousand [ generations] of those who love me and keep my commandments.
Thou shalt not idly utter the name of Jehovah thy God; for Jehovah will not hold him guiltless that idly uttereth his name. 7 "You shall not misuse the name of the LORD your God, for the LORD will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name.
Remember the sabbath day to hallow it. 8 "Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy.
Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work; 9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work,
but the seventh day is the sabbath of Jehovah thy God: thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy bondman, nor thy handmaid, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates. 10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your manservant or maidservant, nor your animals, nor the alien within your gates.
For in six days Jehovah made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day; therefore Jehovah blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it. 11 For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.
Honour thy father and thy mother, that thy days may be prolonged in the land that Jehovah thy God giveth thee. 12 "Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the LORD your God is giving you.
Thou shalt not kill. 13 "You shall not murder.
Thou shalt not commit adultery. 14 "You shall not commit adultery.
Thou shalt not steal. 15 "You shall not steal.
Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour. 16 "You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.
Thou shalt not desire thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not desire thy neighbour's wife, nor his bondman, nor his handmaid, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor anything that is thy neighbour's. 17 "You shall not covet your neighbor's house. You shall not covet your neighbor's wife, or his manservant or maidservant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor."
And all the people saw the thunderings, and the flames, and the sound of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking; and when the people saw [it], they trembled, and stood afar off, 18 When the people saw the thunder and lightning and heard the trumpet and saw the mountain in smoke, they trembled with fear. They stayed at a distance
and said to Moses, Speak thou with us, and we will hear; but let not God speak with us, lest we die. 19 and said to Moses, "Speak to us yourself and we will listen. But do not have God speak to us or we will die."
And Moses said to the people, Fear not; for God is come to prove you, and that his fear may be before you, that ye sin not. 20 Moses said to the people, "Do not be afraid. God has come to test you, so that the fear of God will be with you to keep you from sinning."
And the people stood afar off, and Moses drew near to the obscurity where God was. 21 The people remained at a distance, while Moses approached the thick darkness where God was.
And Jehovah said to Moses, Thus shalt thou say to the children of Israel: Ye have seen that I have spoken with you from the heavens. 22 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Tell the Israelites this: 'You have seen for yourselves that I have spoken to you from heaven:
Ye shall not make beside me gods of silver, and ye shall not make to you gods of gold. 23 Do not make any gods to be alongside me; do not make for yourselves gods of silver or gods of gold.
An altar of earth shalt thou make unto me, and shalt sacrifice on it thy burnt-offerings, and thy peace-offerings, thy sheep and thine oxen: in all places where I shall make my name to be remembered, I will come unto thee, and bless thee. 24 " 'Make an altar of earth for me and sacrifice on it your burnt offerings and fellowship offerings, your sheep and goats and your cattle. Wherever I cause my name to be honored, I will come to you and bless you.
And if thou make me an altar of stone, thou shalt not build it of hewn stone; for if thou lift up thy sharp tool upon it, thou hast profaned it. 25 If you make an altar of stones for me, do not build it with dressed stones, for you will defile it if you use a tool on it.
Neither shalt thou go up by steps unto mine altar, that thy nakedness be not discovered thereon. 26 And do not go up to my altar on steps, lest your nakedness be exposed on it.'
