And to Moses he said, "Go up to Yahweh--you and Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, and seventy from the elders of Israel--and you will worship at a distance. 1 Then he said to Moses, "Come up to the LORD, you and Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel. You are to worship at a distance,
And Moses {alone} will come near to Yahweh, and they will not come near, and the people will not go up with him." 2 but Moses alone is to approach the LORD; the others must not come near. And the people may not come up with him."
And Moses came, and he told the people all the words of Yahweh and all the regulations. And all the people answered with one voice, and they said, "All the words that Yahweh has spoken we will do." 3 When Moses went and told the people all the LORD's words and laws, they responded with one voice, "Everything the LORD has said we will do."
And Moses wrote all the words of Yahweh, and he rose early in the morning, and he built an altar at the base of the mountain and [set up] twelve memorial stones for the twelve tribes of Israel. 4 Moses then wrote down everything the LORD had said. He got up early the next morning and built an altar at the foot of the mountain and set up twelve stone pillars representing the twelve tribes of Israel.
And he sent young men from the {Israelites}, and they offered burnt offerings, and they sacrificed sacrifices [as] fellowship offerings to Yahweh [using] bulls. 5 Then he sent young Israelite men, and they offered burnt offerings and sacrificed young bulls as fellowship offerings to the LORD.
And Moses took half of the blood, and he put [it] in bowls, and half of the blood he sprinkled on the altar. 6 Moses took half of the blood and put it in bowls, and the other half he sprinkled on the altar.
And he took the scroll of the covenant and read [it] in the hearing of the people, and they said, "All that Yahweh has spoken we will do, and we will listen." 7 Then he took the Book of the Covenant and read it to the people. They responded, "We will do everything the LORD has said; we will obey."
And Moses took the blood and sprinkled [it] on the people, and he said, "Look, the blood of the covenant that Yahweh has made with you in accordance with all these words." 8 Moses then took the blood, sprinkled it on the people and said, "This is the blood of the covenant that the LORD has made with you in accordance with all these words."
And Moses and Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, and seventy from the elders of Israel went up. 9 Moses and Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, and the seventy elders of Israel went up
And they saw the God of Israel, and [what was] under his feet [was] like sapphire tile work and like the very heavens for clearness. 10 and saw the God of Israel. Under his feet was something like a pavement made of sapphire, clear as the sky itself.
And toward the leaders of the {Israelites} he did not stretch out his hand, and they beheld God, and they ate, and they drank. 11 But God did not raise his hand against these leaders of the Israelites; they saw God, and they ate and drank.
And Yahweh said to Moses, "Come up to me [on] the mountain, and be there, and I will give you the tablets of stone and the law and the commandments that I have written to instruct them." 12 The LORD said to Moses, "Come up to me on the mountain and stay here, and I will give you the tablets of stone, with the law and commands I have written for their instruction."
And Moses got up, and Joshua, his assistant, and Moses went up to the mountain of God. 13 Then Moses set out with Joshua his aide, and Moses went up on the mountain of God.
And to the elders he said, "Wait for us here until we return to you. And look, Aaron and Hur are with you. Whoever {has a dispute} will bring [it] to you." 14 He said to the elders, "Wait here for us until we come back to you. Aaron and Hur are with you, and anyone involved in a dispute can go to them."
And Moses went up to the mountain, and the cloud covered the mountain. 15 When Moses went up on the mountain, the cloud covered it,
And the glory of Yahweh settled on Mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it [for] six days, and he called to Moses on the seventh day from the midst of the cloud. 16 and the glory of the LORD settled on Mount Sinai. For six days the cloud covered the mountain, and on the seventh day the LORD called to Moses from within the cloud.
And the appearance of the glory of Yahweh [was] like a consuming fire on the top of the mountain to the eyes of the {Israelites}. 17 To the Israelites the glory of the LORD looked like a consuming fire on top of the mountain.
And Moses went into the midst of the cloud, and he went up the mountain, and Moses was on the mountain forty days and forty nights. 18 Then Moses entered the cloud as he went on up the mountain. And he stayed on the mountain forty days and forty nights.
