The spirit lifted me up and brought me to the east gate of the house of the Lord, which faces east. There, at the entrance of the gateway, were twenty-five men; among them I saw Jaazaniah son of Azzur, and Pelatiah son of Benaiah, officials of the people. 1 Then the Spirit lifted me up and brought me to the gate of the house of the LORD that faces east. There at the entrance to the gate were twenty-five men, and I saw among them Jaazaniah son of Azzur and Pelatiah son of Benaiah, leaders of the people.
He said to me, "Mortal, these are the men who devise iniquity and who give wicked counsel in this city; 2 The LORD said to me, "Son of man, these are the men who are plotting evil and giving wicked advice in this city.
they say, "The time is not near to build houses; this city is the pot, and we are the meat.' 3 They say, 'Will it not soon be time to build houses? This city is a cooking pot, and we are the meat.'
Therefore prophesy against them; prophesy, O mortal." 4 Therefore prophesy against them; prophesy, son of man."
Then the spirit of the Lord fell upon me, and he said to me, "Say, Thus says the Lord: This is what you think, O house of Israel; I know the things that come into your mind. 5 Then the Spirit of the LORD came upon me, and he told me to say: "This is what the LORD says: That is what you are saying, O house of Israel, but I know what is going through your mind.
You have killed many in this city, and have filled its streets with the slain. 6 You have killed many people in this city and filled its streets with the dead.
Therefore thus says the Lord God: The slain whom you have placed within it are the meat, and this city is the pot; but you shall be taken out of it. 7 "Therefore this is what the Sovereign LORD says: The bodies you have thrown there are the meat and this city is the pot, but I will drive you out of it.
You have feared the sword; and I will bring the sword upon you, says the Lord God. 8 You fear the sword, and the sword is what I will bring against you, declares the Sovereign LORD.
I will take you out of it and give you over to the hands of foreigners, and execute judgments upon you. 9 I will drive you out of the city and hand you over to foreigners and inflict punishment on you.
You shall fall by the sword; I will judge you at the border of Israel. And you shall know that I am the Lord. 10 You will fall by the sword, and I will execute judgment on you at the borders of Israel. Then you will know that I am the LORD.
This city shall not be your pot, and you shall not be the meat inside it; I will judge you at the border of Israel. 11 This city will not be a pot for you, nor will you be the meat in it; I will execute judgment on you at the borders of Israel.
Then you shall know that I am the Lord, whose statutes you have not followed, and whose ordinances you have not kept, but you have acted according to the ordinances of the nations that are around you." 12 And you will know that I am the LORD, for you have not followed my decrees or kept my laws but have conformed to the standards of the nations around you."
Now, while I was prophesying, Pelatiah son of Benaiah died. Then I fell down on my face, cried with a loud voice, and said, "Ah Lord God! will you make a full end of the remnant of Israel?" 13 Now as I was prophesying, Pelatiah son of Benaiah died. Then I fell facedown and cried out in a loud voice, "Ah, Sovereign LORD! Will you completely destroy the remnant of Israel?"
Then the word of the Lord came to me: 14 The word of the LORD came to me:
