GOD'S WORD Translation (GW) New International Version (NIV)
Brothers and sisters, if I am still preaching that circumcision is necessary, why am I still being persecuted? In that case the cross wouldn't be offensive anymore. 11 Brothers, if I am still preaching circumcision, why am I still being persecuted? In that case the offense of the cross has been abolished.
I wish those troublemakers would castrate themselves. 12 As for those agitators, I wish they would go the whole way and emasculate themselves!
You were indeed called to be free, brothers and sisters. Don't turn this freedom into an excuse for your corrupt nature to express itself. Rather, serve each other through love. 13 You, my brothers, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature; rather, serve one another in love.
All of Moses' Teachings are summarized in a single statement, "Love your neighbor as you love yourself." 14 The entire law is summed up in a single command: "Love your neighbor as yourself."
But if you criticize and attack each other, be careful that you don't destroy each other. 15 If you keep on biting and devouring each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other.
Let me explain further. Live your life as your spiritual nature directs you. Then you will never follow through on what your corrupt nature wants. 16 So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature.
What your corrupt nature wants is contrary to what your spiritual nature wants, and what your spiritual nature wants is contrary to what your corrupt nature wants. They are opposed to each other. As a result, you don't always do what you intend to do. 17 For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature. They are in conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you want.
If your spiritual nature is your guide, you are not subject to Moses' laws. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under law.
Now, the effects of the corrupt nature are obvious: illicit sex, perversion, promiscuity, 19 The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery;
idolatry, drug use, hatred, rivalry, jealousy, angry outbursts, selfish ambition, conflict, factions, 20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions
envy, drunkenness, wild partying, and similar things. I've told you in the past and I'm telling you again that people who do these kinds of things will not inherit the kingdom of God. 21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.
