The Darby Translation (DBY) New International Version (NIV)
And it came to pass when mankind began to multiply on the earth, and daughters were born to them, 1 When men began to increase in number on the earth and daughters were born to them,
that the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair, and took themselves wives of all that they chose. 2 the sons of God saw that the daughters of men were beautiful, and they married any of them they chose.
And Jehovah said, My Spirit shall not always plead with Man; for he indeed is flesh; but his days shall be a hundred and twenty years. 3 Then the LORD said, "My Spirit will not contend with man forever, for he is mortal; his days will be a hundred and twenty years."
In those days were the giants on the earth, and also afterwards, when the sons of God had come in to the daughters of men, and they had borne [children] to them; these were the heroes, who of old were men of renown. 4 The Nephilim were on the earth in those days--and also afterward--when the sons of God went to the daughters of men and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, men of renown.
And Jehovah saw that the wickedness of Man was great on the earth, and every imagination of the thoughts of his heart only evil continually. 5 The LORD saw how great man's wickedness on the earth had become, and that every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil all the time.
And Jehovah repented that he had made Man on the earth, and it grieved him in his heart. 6 The LORD was grieved that he had made man on the earth, and his heart was filled with pain.
And Jehovah said, I will destroy Man, whom I have created, from the earth -- from man to cattle, to creeping things, and to fowl of the heavens; for I repent that I have made them. 7 So the LORD said, "I will wipe mankind, whom I have created, from the face of the earth--men and animals, and creatures that move along the ground, and birds of the air--for I am grieved that I have made them."
But Noah found favour in the eyes of Jehovah. 8 But Noah found favor in the eyes of the LORD.
This is the history of Noah. Noah was a just man, perfect amongst his generations: Noah walked with God. 9 This is the account of Noah. Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked with God.
And Noah begot three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth. 10 Noah had three sons: Shem, Ham and Japheth.
And the earth was corrupt before God, and the earth was full of violence. 11 Now the earth was corrupt in God's sight and was full of violence.
And God looked upon the earth, and behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted its way on the earth. 12 God saw how corrupt the earth had become, for all the people on earth had corrupted their ways.
And God said to Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me, for the earth is full of violence through them; and behold, I will destroy them with the earth. 13 So God said to Noah, "I am going to put an end to all people, for the earth is filled with violence because of them. I am surely going to destroy both them and the earth.
Make thyself an ark of gopher wood: [with] cells shalt thou make the ark; and pitch it inside and outside with pitch. 14 So make yourself an ark of cypress wood; make rooms in it and coat it with pitch inside and out.
And thus shalt thou make it: let the length of the ark be three hundred cubits, the breadth of it fifty cubits, and the height of it thirty cubits. 15 This is how you are to build it: The ark is to be 450 feet long, 75 feet wide and 45 feet high.
A light shalt thou make to the ark; and to a cubit high shalt thou finish it above. And the door of the ark shalt thou set in its side: [with] a lower, second, and third [story] shalt thou make it. 16 Make a roof for it and finish the ark to within 18 inches of the top. Put a door in the side of the ark and make lower, middle and upper decks.
For I, behold, I bring a flood of waters on the earth, to destroy all flesh under the heavens in which is the breath of life: everything that is on the earth shall expire. 17 I am going to bring floodwaters on the earth to destroy all life under the heavens, every creature that has the breath of life in it. Everything on earth will perish.
But with thee will I establish my covenant; and thou shalt go into the ark, thou, and thy sons, and thy wife, and thy sons' wives with thee. 18 But I will establish my covenant with you, and you will enter the ark--you and your sons and your wife and your sons' wives with you.
And of every living thing of all flesh, two of every [sort] shalt thou bring into the ark, to keep [them] alive with thee: they shall be male and female. 19 You are to bring into the ark two of all living creatures, male and female, to keep them alive with you.
Of fowl after their kind, and of the cattle after their kind, of every creeping thing of the ground after its kind, two of each shall go in to thee, to keep [them] alive. 20 Two of every kind of bird, of every kind of animal and of every kind of creature that moves along the ground will come to you to be kept alive.
And take thou of all food that is eaten, and gather [it] to thee, that it may be for food for thee and for them. 21 You are to take every kind of food that is to be eaten and store it away as food for you and for them."
And Noah did it; according to all that God had commanded him, so did he. 22 Noah did everything just as God commanded him.
