New American Standard (NAS) New International Version (NIV)
"Look among the nations! Observe! Be astonished! Wonder! Because I am doing something in your days - You would not believe if you were told. 5 "Look at the nations and watch-- and be utterly amazed. For I am going to do something in your days that you would not believe, even if you were told.
"For behold, I am raising up the Chaldeans, That fierce and impetuous people Who march throughout the earth To seize dwelling places which are not theirs. 6 I am raising up the Babylonians, that ruthless and impetuous people, who sweep across the whole earth to seize dwelling places not their own.
"They are dreaded and feared; Their justice and authority originate with themselves. 7 They are a feared and dreaded people; they are a law to themselves and promote their own honor.
"Their horses are swifter than leopards And keener than wolves in the evening. Their horsemen come galloping, Their horsemen come from afar; They fly like an eagle swooping down to devour. 8 Their horses are swifter than leopards, fiercer than wolves at dusk. Their cavalry gallops headlong; their horsemen come from afar. They fly like a vulture swooping to devour;
"All of them come for violence. Their horde of faces moves forward. They collect captives like sand. 9 they all come bent on violence. Their hordes advance like a desert wind and gather prisoners like sand.
"They mock at kings And rulers are a laughing matter to them. They laugh at every fortress And heap up rubble to capture it. 10 They deride kings and scoff at rulers. They laugh at all fortified cities; they build earthen ramps and capture them.
"Then they will sweep through like the wind and pass on. But they will be held guilty, They whose strength is their god." 11 Then they sweep past like the wind and go on-- guilty men, whose own strength is their god."
