But recall those earlier days when, after you had been enlightened, you endured a hard struggle with sufferings, 32 Remember those earlier days after you had received the light, when you stood your ground in a great contest in the face of suffering.
sometimes being publicly exposed to abuse and persecution, and sometimes being partners with those so treated. 33 Sometimes you were publicly exposed to insult and persecution; at other times you stood side by side with those who were so treated.
For you had compassion for those who were in prison, and you cheerfully accepted the plundering of your possessions, knowing that you yourselves possessed something better and more lasting. 34 You sympathized with those in prison and joyfully accepted the confiscation of your property, because you knew that you yourselves had better and lasting possessions.
Do not, therefore, abandon that confidence of yours; it brings a great reward. 35 So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded.
For you need endurance, so that when you have done the will of God, you may receive what was promised. 36 You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised.
For yet "in a very little while, the one who is coming will come and will not delay; 37 For in just a very little while, "He who is coming will come and will not delay.
but my righteous one will live by faith. My soul takes no pleasure in anyone who shrinks back." 38 But my righteous one will live by faith. And if he shrinks back, I will not be pleased with him."
But we are not among those who shrink back and so are lost, but among those who have faith and so are saved. 39 But we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who believe and are saved.
