1 Because of this it behoveth [us] more abundantly to take heed to the things heard, lest we may glide aside, 1 We must pay more careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away.
2 for if the word being spoken through messengers did become stedfast, and every transgression and disobedience did receive a just recompense, 2 For if the message spoken by angels was binding, and every violation and disobedience received its just punishment,
3 how shall we escape, having neglected so great salvation? which a beginning receiving -- to be spoken through the Lord -- by those having heard was confirmed to us, 3 how shall we escape if we ignore such a great salvation? This salvation, which was first announced by the Lord, was confirmed to us by those who heard him.
4 God also bearing joint-witness both with signs and wonders, and manifold powers, and distributions of the Holy Spirit, according to His will. 4 God also testified to it by signs, wonders and various miracles, and gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his will.
5 For not to messengers did He subject the coming world, concerning which we speak, 5 It is not to angels that he has subjected the world to come, about which we are speaking.
6 and one in a certain place did testify fully, saying, `What is man, that Thou art mindful of him, or a son of man, that Thou dost look after him? 6 But there is a place where someone has testified: "What is man that you are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for him?
