New Living Translation (NLT) New International Version (NIV)
This is another vision that Isaiah son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem: 1 This is what Isaiah son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem:
In the last days, the Temple of the LORD in Jerusalem will become the most important place on earth. People from all over the world will go there to worship. 2 In the last days the mountain of the LORD's temple will be established as chief among the mountains; it will be raised above the hills, and all nations will stream to it.
Many nations will come and say, "Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the Temple of the God of Israel. There he will teach us his ways, so that we may obey him." For in those days the LORD's teaching and his word will go out from Jerusalem. 3 Many peoples will come and say, "Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob. He will teach us his ways, so that we may walk in his paths." The law will go out from Zion, the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.
The LORD will settle international disputes. All the nations will beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. All wars will stop, and military training will come to an end. 4 He will judge between the nations and will settle disputes for many peoples. They will beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will not take up sword against nation, nor will they train for war anymore.
Come, people of Israel, let us walk in the light of the LORD! 5 Come, O house of Jacob, let us walk in the light of the LORD.
The LORD has rejected the people of Israel because they have made alliances with foreigners from the East who practice magic and divination, just like the Philistines. 6 You have abandoned your people, the house of Jacob. They are full of superstitions from the East; they practice divination like the Philistines and clasp hands with pagans.
Israel has vast treasures of silver and gold and many horses and chariots. 7 Their land is full of silver and gold; there is no end to their treasures. Their land is full of horses; there is no end to their chariots.
The land is filled with idols. The people bow down and worship these things they have made. 8 Their land is full of idols; they bow down to the work of their hands, to what their fingers have made.
So now everyone will be humbled and brought low. The LORD cannot simply ignore their sins! 9 So man will be brought low and mankind humbled-- do not forgive them.
Crawl into caves in the rocks. Hide from the terror of the LORD and the glory of his majesty. 10 Go into the rocks, hide in the ground from dread of the LORD and the splendor of his majesty!
The day is coming when your pride will be brought low and the LORD alone will be exalted. 11 The eyes of the arrogant man will be humbled and the pride of men brought low; the LORD alone will be exalted in that day.
In that day the LORD Almighty will punish the proud, bringing them down to the dust. 12 The LORD Almighty has a day in store for all the proud and lofty, for all that is exalted (and they will be humbled),
He will cut down the tall cedars of Lebanon and the mighty oaks of Bashan. 13 for all the cedars of Lebanon, tall and lofty, and all the oaks of Bashan,
He will level the high mountains and hills. 14 for all the towering mountains and all the high hills,
He will break down every high tower and wall. 15 for every lofty tower and every fortified wall,
He will destroy the great trading ships and all the small boats in the harbor. 16 for every trading ship and every stately vessel.
The arrogance of all people will be brought low. Their pride will lie in the dust. The LORD alone will be exalted! 17 The arrogance of man will be brought low and the pride of men humbled; the LORD alone will be exalted in that day,
Idols will be utterly abolished and destroyed. 18 and the idols will totally disappear.
When the LORD rises to shake the earth, his enemies will crawl with fear into holes in the ground. They will hide in caves in the rocks from the terror of the LORD and the glory of his majesty. 19 Men will flee to caves in the rocks and to holes in the ground from dread of the LORD and the splendor of his majesty, when he rises to shake the earth.
They will abandon their gold and silver idols to the moles and bats. 20 In that day men will throw away to the rodents and bats their idols of silver and idols of gold, which they made to worship.
They will crawl into caverns and hide among the jagged rocks at the tops of cliffs. In this way, they will try to escape the terror of the LORD and the glory of his majesty as he rises to shake the earth. 21 They will flee to caverns in the rocks and to the overhanging crags from dread of the LORD and the splendor of his majesty, when he rises to shake the earth.
Stop putting your trust in mere humans. They are as frail as breath. How can they be of help to anyone? 22 Stop trusting in man, who has but a breath in his nostrils. Of what account is he?
