Jeremiah 16:1-7

GNT

NIV

1 Again the Lord spoke to me and said,
1 Then the word of the LORD came to me:
2 "Do not marry or have children in a place like this.
2 “You must not marry and have sons or daughters in this place.”
3 I will tell you what is going to happen to the children who are born here and to their parents.
3 For this is what the LORD says about the sons and daughters born in this land and about the women who are their mothers and the men who are their fathers:
4 They will die of terrible diseases, and no one will mourn for them or bury them. Their bodies will lie like piles of manure on the ground. They will be killed in war or die of starvation, and their bodies will be food for the birds and the wild animals.
4 “They will die of deadly diseases. They will not be mourned or buried but will be like dung lying on the ground. They will perish by sword and famine, and their dead bodies will become food for the birds and the wild animals.”
5 "You must not enter a house where there is mourning. Do not grieve for anyone. I will no longer bless my people with peace or show them love and mercy.
5 For this is what the LORD says: “Do not enter a house where there is a funeral meal; do not go to mourn or show sympathy, because I have withdrawn my blessing, my love and my pity from this people,” declares the LORD.
6 The rich and the poor will die in this land, but no one will bury them or mourn for them. Not one of you will gash yourself or shave your head to show your grief.
6 “Both high and low will die in this land. They will not be buried or mourned, and no one will cut themselves or shave their head for the dead.
7 No one will eat or drink with anyone to offer comfort when a loved one dies. No one will show sympathy, not even for someone who has lost a father or mother.
7 No one will offer food to comfort those who mourn for the dead—not even for a father or a mother—nor will anyone give them a drink to console them.
