Bible in Basic English (BBE) New International Version (NIV)
Zedekiah was twenty-one years old when he became king; he was king for eleven years in Jerusalem: and his mother's name was Hamutal, the daughter of Jeremiah of Libnah. 1 Zedekiah was twenty-one years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem eleven years. His mother's name was Hamutal daughter of Jeremiah; she was from Libnah.
And he did evil in the eyes of the Lord, as Jehoiakim had done. 2 He did evil in the eyes of the LORD, just as Jehoiakim had done.
And because of the wrath of the Lord this came about in Jerusalem and Judah, till he had sent them away from before him: and Zedekiah took up arms against the king of Babylon. 3 It was because of the LORD's anger that all this happened to Jerusalem and Judah, and in the end he thrust them from his presence. Now Zedekiah rebelled against the king of Babylon.
And in the ninth year of his rule, on the tenth day of the tenth month, Nebuchadrezzar, king of Babylon, came against Jerusalem with all his army and took up his position before it, building earthworks all round it. 4 So in the ninth year of Zedekiah's reign, on the tenth day of the tenth month, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon marched against Jerusalem with his whole army. They camped outside the city and built siege works all around it.
So the town was shut in by their forces till the eleventh year of King Zedekiah. 5 The city was kept under siege until the eleventh year of King Zedekiah.
In the fourth month, on the ninth day of the month, the store of food in the town was almost gone, so that there was no food for the people of the land. 6 By the ninth day of the fourth month the famine in the city had become so severe that there was no food for the people to eat.
