Flee for safety, you children of Benjamin, out of the midst of Jerusalem, and blow the trumpet in Tekoa, and raise up a signal on Beth-haccherem; for evil looks forth from the north, and a great destruction. 1 "Flee for safety, people of Benjamin! Flee from Jerusalem! Sound the trumpet in Tekoa! Raise the signal over Beth Hakkerem! For disaster looms out of the north, even terrible destruction.
The comely and delicate one, the daughter of Zion, will I cut off. 2 I will destroy the Daughter of Zion, so beautiful and delicate.
Shepherds with their flocks shall come to her; they shall pitch their tents against her round about; they shall feed everyone in his place. 3 Shepherds with their flocks will come against her; they will pitch their tents around her, each tending his own portion."
Prepare you war against her; arise, and let us go up at noon. Woe to us! for the day declines, for the shadows of the evening are stretched out. 4 "Prepare for battle against her! Arise, let us attack at noon! But, alas, the daylight is fading, and the shadows of evening grow long.
Arise, and let us go up by night, and let us destroy her palaces. 5 So arise, let us attack at night and destroy her fortresses!"
For thus has Yahweh of Hosts said, Hew you down trees, and cast up a mound against Jerusalem: this is the city to be visited; she is wholly oppression in the midst of her. 6 This is what the LORD Almighty says: "Cut down the trees and build siege ramps against Jerusalem. This city must be punished; it is filled with oppression.
