Job 40 GNT/NIV - Online Parallel Bible

Good News Translation (GNT) New International Version (NIV)
1 Job, you challenged Almighty God; will you give up now, or will you answer? 1 The LORD said to Job:
3 I spoke foolishly, Lord. What can I answer? I will not try to say anything else. 3 "Will the one who contends with the Almighty correct him? Let him who accuses God answer him!"
5 I have already said more than I should. 5 Then Job answered the LORD:
6 Then out of the storm the Lord spoke to Job once again. 6 "I am unworthy--how can I reply to you? I put my hand over my mouth.
7 Now stand up straight and answer my questions. 7 I spoke once, but I have no answer-- twice, but I will say no more."
8 Are you trying to prove that I am unjust - to put me in the wrong and yourself in the right? 8 Then the LORD spoke to Job out of the storm:
9 Are you as strong as I am? Can your voice thunder as loud as mine? 9 "Brace yourself like a man; I will question you, and you shall answer me.
10 If so, stand up in your honor and pride; clothe yourself with majesty and glory. 10 "Would you discredit my justice? Would you condemn me to justify yourself ?
11 Look at those who are proud; pour out your anger and humble them. 11 Do you have an arm like God's, and can your voice thunder like his?
12 Yes, look at them and bring them down; crush the wicked where they stand. 12 Then adorn yourself with glory and splendor, and clothe yourself in honor and majesty.
13 Bury them all in the ground; bind them in the world of the dead. 13 Unleash the fury of your wrath, look at every proud man and bring him low,
14 Then I will be the first to praise you and admit that you won the victory yourself. 14 look at every proud man and humble him, crush the wicked where they stand.
15 Look at the monster Behemoth; I created him and I created you. He eats grass like a cow, 15 Bury them all in the dust together; shroud their faces in the grave.
16 but what strength there is in his body, and what power there is in his muscles! 16 Then I myself will admit to you that your own right hand can save you.
17 His tail stands up like a cedar, and the muscles in his legs are strong. 17 "Look at the behemoth, which I made along with you and which feeds on grass like an ox.
18 His bones are as strong as bronze, and his legs are like iron bars. 18 What strength he has in his loins, what power in the muscles of his belly!
19 The most amazing of all my creatures! Only his Creator can defeat him. 19 His tail sways like a cedar; the sinews of his thighs are close-knit.
20 Grass to feed him grows on the hills where wild beasts play. 20 His bones are tubes of bronze, his limbs like rods of iron.
21 He lies down under the thorn bushes, and hides among the reeds in the swamp. 21 He ranks first among the works of God, yet his Maker can approach him with his sword.
22 The thorn bushes and the willows by the stream give him shelter in their shade. 22 The hills bring him their produce, and all the wild animals play nearby.
23 He is not afraid of a rushing river; he is calm when the Jordan dashes in his face. 23 Under the lotus plants he lies, hidden among the reeds in the marsh.
24 Who can blind his eyes and capture him? Or who can catch his snout in a trap? 24 The lotuses conceal him in their shadow; the poplars by the stream surround him.
23 23 When the river rages, he is not alarmed; he is secure, though the Jordan should surge against his mouth.
24 24 Can anyone capture him by the eyes, or trap him and pierce his nose?
