Bible in Basic English (BBE) New International Version (NIV)
And there was a day when the sons of the gods came together before the Lord, and the Satan came with them. 1 On another day the angels came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan also came with them to present himself before him.
And the Lord said to the Satan, Where do you come from? And the Satan said in answer, From wandering this way and that on the earth, and walking about on it. 2 And the LORD said to Satan, "Where have you come from?" Satan answered the LORD, "From roaming through the earth and going back and forth in it."
And the Lord said to the Satan, Have you taken note of my servant Job, for there is no one like him on the earth, a man without sin and upright, fearing God and keeping himself far from evil? and he still keeps his righteousness, though you have been moving me to send destruction on him without cause. 3 Then the LORD said to Satan, "Have you considered my servant Job? There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil. And he still maintains his integrity, though you incited me against him to ruin him without any reason."
And the Satan said in answer to the Lord, Skin for skin, all a man has he will give for his life. 4 "Skin for skin!" Satan replied. "A man will give all he has for his own life.
But now, if you only put your hand on his bone and his flesh, he will certainly be cursing you to your face. 5 But stretch out your hand and strike his flesh and bones, and he will surely curse you to your face."
And the Lord said to the Satan, See, he is in your hands, only do not take his life. 6 The LORD said to Satan, "Very well, then, he is in your hands; but you must spare his life."
