New Living Translation (NLT) New International Version (NIV)
"You may cry for help, but no one listens. You may turn to the angels, but they give you no help. 1 "Call if you will, but who will answer you? To which of the holy ones will you turn?
Surely resentment destroys the fool, and jealousy kills the simple. 2 Resentment kills a fool, and envy slays the simple.
From my experience, I know that fools who turn from God may be successful for the moment, but then comes sudden disaster. 3 I myself have seen a fool taking root, but suddenly his house was cursed.
Their children are abandoned far from help, with no one to defend them. 4 His children are far from safety, crushed in court without a defender.
Their harvests are stolen, and their wealth satisfies the thirst of many others, not themselves! 5 The hungry consume his harvest, taking it even from among thorns, and the thirsty pant after his wealth.
But evil does not spring from the soil, and trouble does not sprout from the earth. 6 For hardship does not spring from the soil, nor does trouble sprout from the ground.
People are born for trouble as predictably as sparks fly upward from a fire. 7 Yet man is born to trouble as surely as sparks fly upward.
"My advice to you is this: Go to God and present your case to him. 8 "But if it were I, I would appeal to God; I would lay my cause before him.
For he does great works too marvelous to understand. He performs miracles without number. 9 He performs wonders that cannot be fathomed, miracles that cannot be counted.
