King James Version (KJV) New International Version (NIV)
I speak not of you all: I know whom I have chosen : but that the scripture may be fulfilled , He that eateth bread with me hath lifted up his heel against me. 18 "I am not referring to all of you; I know those I have chosen. But this is to fulfill the scripture: 'He who shares my bread has lifted up his heel against me.'
Now I tell you before it come , that, when it is come to pass , ye may believe that I am he. 19 "I am telling you now before it happens, so that when it does happen you will believe that I am He.
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that receiveth whomsoever I send receiveth me; and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me. 20 I tell you the truth, whoever accepts anyone I send accepts me; and whoever accepts me accepts the one who sent me."
When Jesus had thus said , he was troubled in spirit, and testified , and said , Verily, verily, I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me. 21 After he had said this, Jesus was troubled in spirit and testified, "I tell you the truth, one of you is going to betray me."
Then the disciples looked one on another , doubting of whom he spake . 22 His disciples stared at one another, at a loss to know which of them he meant.
Now there was leaning on Jesus' bosom one of his disciples, whom Jesus loved . 23 One of them, the disciple whom Jesus loved, was reclining next to him.
Simon Peter therefore beckoned to him, that he should ask who it should be of whom he spake . 24 Simon Peter motioned to this disciple and said, "Ask him which one he means."
He then lying on Jesus' breast saith unto him, Lord, who is it ? 25 Leaning back against Jesus, he asked him, "Lord, who is it?"
Jesus answered , He it is , to whom I shall give a sop, when I have dipped it. And when he had dipped the sop, he gave it to Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon. 26 Jesus answered, "It is the one to whom I will give this piece of bread when I have dipped it in the dish." Then, dipping the piece of bread, he gave it to Judas Iscariot, son of Simon.
And after the sop Satan entered into him. Then said Jesus unto him, That thou doest , do quickly. 27 As soon as Judas took the bread, Satan entered into him. "What you are about to do, do quickly," Jesus told him,
Now no man at the table knew for what intent he spake this unto him. 28 but no one at the meal understood why Jesus said this to him.
