Wycliffe (WYC) New International Version (NIV)
In him was life, and the life was the light of men; 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of men.
and the light shineth in darknesses, and [the] darknesses comprehended not it. 5 The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it.
A man was sent from God, to whom the name was John. 6 There came a man who was sent from God; his name was John.
This man came into witnessing, that he should bear witnessing of the light, that all men should believe by him. 7 He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all men might believe.
He was not that light, but that he should bear witnessing of the light. 8 He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light.
There was a very light, which lighteneth each man that cometh into this world [that lighteth each man coming into this world]. 9 The true light that gives light to every man was coming into the world.
He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. 10 He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him.
He came into his own things, and his received him not. 11 He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him.
But how many ever received him, he gave to them power to be made the sons of God, to them that believe in his name; 12 Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God--
the which not of bloods [which not of bloods], neither of the will of flesh, neither of the will of man, but be born of God. 13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God.
And the word was made man, and dwelled among us, and we have seen the glory of him, as the glory of the one begotten Son of the Father, full of grace and of truth. [And the word, that is, God's Son, is made flesh, or man, and hath dwelled in us, and we have seen the glory of him, the glory as of the one begotten of the Father, the Son full of grace and truth.] 14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
