1 The next day Jesus' mother was a guest at a wedding celebration in the village of Cana in Galilee. 1 On the third day a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee. Jesus' mother was there,
2 Jesus and his disciples were also invited to the celebration. 2 and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding.
3 The wine supply ran out during the festivities, so Jesus' mother spoke to him about the problem. "They have no more wine," she told him. 3 When the wine was gone, Jesus' mother said to him, "They have no more wine."
4 "How does that concern you and me?" Jesus asked. "My time has not yet come." 4 "Dear woman, why do you involve me?" Jesus replied. "My time has not yet come."
5 But his mother told the servants, "Do whatever he tells you." 5 His mother said to the servants, "Do whatever he tells you."
6 Six stone waterpots were standing there; they were used for Jewish ceremonial purposes and held twenty to thirty gallons each. 6 Nearby stood six stone water jars, the kind used by the Jews for ceremonial washing, each holding from twenty to thirty gallons.
7 Jesus told the servants, "Fill the jars with water." When the jars had been filled to the brim, 7 Jesus said to the servants, "Fill the jars with water"; so they filled them to the brim.
8 he said, "Dip some out and take it to the master of ceremonies." So they followed his instructions. 8 Then he told them, "Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet." They did so,
9 When the master of ceremonies tasted the water that was now wine, not knowing where it had come from (though, of course, the servants knew), he called the bridegroom over. 9 and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew. Then he called the bridegroom aside
