The Darby Translation (DBY) New International Version (NIV)
And Jonah prayed unto Jehovah his God out of the fish's belly; 1 From inside the fish Jonah prayed to the LORD his God.
and he said: I cried by reason of my distress unto Jehovah, and he answered me; Out of the belly of Sheol cried I: thou heardest my voice. 2 He said: "In my distress I called to the LORD, and he answered me. From the depths of the grave I called for help, and you listened to my cry.
For thou didst cast me into the depth, into the heart of the seas, And the flood was round about me: All thy breakers and thy billows are gone over me. 3 You hurled me into the deep, into the very heart of the seas, and the currents swirled about me; all your waves and breakers swept over me.
And I said, I am cast out from before thine eyes, Yet will I look again toward thy holy temple. 4 I said, 'I have been banished from your sight; yet I will look again toward your holy temple.'
The waters encompassed me, to the soul: The deep was round about me, The weeds were wrapped about my head. 5 The engulfing waters threatened me, the deep surrounded me; seaweed was wrapped around my head.
I went down to the bottoms of the mountains; The bars of the earth [closed] upon me for ever: But thou hast brought up my life from the pit, O Jehovah my God. 6 To the roots of the mountains I sank down; the earth beneath barred me in forever. But you brought my life up from the pit, O LORD my God.
When my soul fainted within me, I remembered Jehovah; And my prayer came in unto thee, Into thy holy temple. 7 "When my life was ebbing away, I remembered you, LORD, and my prayer rose to you, to your holy temple.
They that observe lying vanities forsake their own mercy. 8 "Those who cling to worthless idols forfeit the grace that could be theirs.
But I will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that which I have vowed. Salvation is of Jehovah. 9 But I, with a song of thanksgiving, will sacrifice to you. What I have vowed I will make good. Salvation comes from the LORD."
And Jehovah commanded the fish, and it vomited out Jonah upon the dry [land]. 10 And the LORD commanded the fish, and it vomited Jonah onto dry land.
