He said to His disciples, "It is inevitable that stumbling blocks come, but woe to him through whom they come ! 1 Jesus said to his disciples: "Things that cause people to sin are bound to come, but woe to that person through whom they come.
"It would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck and he were thrown into the sea, than that he would cause one of these little ones to stumble. 2 It would be better for him to be thrown into the sea with a millstone tied around his neck than for him to cause one of these little ones to sin.
"Be on your guard ! If your brother sins, rebuke him; and if he repents, forgive him. 3 So watch yourselves. "If your brother sins, rebuke him, and if he repents, forgive him.
"And if he sins against you seven times a day, and returns to you seven times, saying, 'I repent,' forgive him." 4 If he sins against you seven times in a day, and seven times comes back to you and says, 'I repent,' forgive him."
The apostles said to the Lord, "Increase our faith !" 5 The apostles said to the LORD, "Increase our faith!"
And the Lord said, "If you had faith like a mustard seed, you would say to this mulberry tree, 'Be uprooted and be planted in the sea '; and it would obey you. 6 He replied, "If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, 'Be uprooted and planted in the sea,' and it will obey you.
"Which of you, having a slave plowing or tending sheep, will say to him when he has come in from the field, 'Come immediately and sit down to eat'? 7 "Suppose one of you had a servant plowing or looking after the sheep. Would he say to the servant when he comes in from the field, 'Come along now and sit down to eat'?
"But will he not say to him, 'Prepare something for me to eat, and properly clothe yourself and serve me while I eat and drink ; and afterward you may eat and drink '? 8 Would he not rather say, 'Prepare my supper, get yourself ready and wait on me while I eat and drink; after that you may eat and drink'?
"He does not thank the slave because he did the things which were commanded, does he? 9 Would he thank the servant because he did what he was told to do?
"So you too, when you do all the things which are commanded you, say, 'We are unworthy slaves ; we have done only that which we ought to have done.' " 10 So you also, when you have done everything you were told to do, should say, 'We are unworthy servants; we have only done our duty.' "
