Revised Standard Version (RSV) New International Version (NIV)
And he said to his disciples, "Temptations to sin are sure to come; but woe to him by whom they come! 1 Jesus said to his disciples: "Things that cause people to sin are bound to come, but woe to that person through whom they come.
It would be better for him if a millstone were hung round his neck and he were cast into the sea, than that he should cause one of these little ones to sin. 2 It would be better for him to be thrown into the sea with a millstone tied around his neck than for him to cause one of these little ones to sin.
Take heed to yourselves; if your brother sins, rebuke him, and if he repents, forgive him; 3 So watch yourselves. "If your brother sins, rebuke him, and if he repents, forgive him.
and if he sins against you seven times in the day, and turns to you seven times, and says, 'I repent,' you must forgive him." 4 If he sins against you seven times in a day, and seven times comes back to you and says, 'I repent,' forgive him."
The apostles said to the Lord, "Increase our faith!" 5 The apostles said to the LORD, "Increase our faith!"
And the Lord said, "If you had faith as a grain of mustard seed, you could say to this sycamine tree, 'Be rooted up, and be planted in the sea,' and it would obey you. 6 He replied, "If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, 'Be uprooted and planted in the sea,' and it will obey you.
"Will any one of you, who has a servant plowing or keeping sheep, say to him when he has come in from the field, 'Come at once and sit down at table'? 7 "Suppose one of you had a servant plowing or looking after the sheep. Would he say to the servant when he comes in from the field, 'Come along now and sit down to eat'?
Will he not rather say to him, 'Prepare supper for me, and gird yourself and serve me, till I eat and drink; and afterward you shall eat and drink'? 8 Would he not rather say, 'Prepare my supper, get yourself ready and wait on me while I eat and drink; after that you may eat and drink'?
Does he thank the servant because he did what was commanded? 9 Would he thank the servant because he did what he was told to do?
So you also, when you have done all that is commanded you, say, 'We are unworthy servants; we have only done what was our duty.'" 10 So you also, when you have done everything you were told to do, should say, 'We are unworthy servants; we have only done our duty.' "
