Revised Standard Version (RSV) New International Version (NIV)
Inasmuch as many have undertaken to compile a narrative of the things which have been accomplished among us, 1 Many have undertaken to draw up an account of the things that have been fulfilled among us,
just as they were delivered to us by those who from the beginning were eyewitnesses and ministers of the word, 2 just as they were handed down to us by those who from the first were eyewitnesses and servants of the word.
it seemed good to me also, having followed all things closely for some time past, to write an orderly account for you, most excellent The-oph'ilus, 3 Therefore, since I myself have carefully investigated everything from the beginning, it seemed good also to me to write an orderly account for you, most excellent Theophilus,
that you may know the truth concerning the things of which you have been informed. 4 so that you may know the certainty of the things you have been taught.
In the days of Herod, king of Judea, there was a priest named Zechari'ah, of the division of Abi'jah; and he had a wife of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elizabeth. 5 In the time of Herod king of Judea there was a priest named Zechariah, who belonged to the priestly division of Abijah; his wife Elizabeth was also a descendant of Aaron.
And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless. 6 Both of them were upright in the sight of God, observing all the Lord's commandments and regulations blamelessly.
