In the depths of who I am I rejoice in God my savior. 47 and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,
He has looked with favor on the low status of his servant. Look! From now on, everyone will consider me highly favored 48 for he has been mindful of the humble state of his servant. From now on all generations will call me blessed,
because the mighty one has done great things for me. Holy is his name. 49 for the Mighty One has done great things for me-- holy is his name.
He shows mercy to everyone, from one generation to the next, who honors him as God. 50 His mercy extends to those who fear him, from generation to generation.
He has shown strength with his arm. He has scattered those with arrogant thoughts and proud inclinations. 51 He has performed mighty deeds with his arm; he has scattered those who are proud in their inmost thoughts.
He has pulled the powerful down from their thrones and lifted up the lowly. 52 He has brought down rulers from their thrones but has lifted up the humble.
He has filled the hungry with good things and sent the rich away empty-handed. 53 He has filled the hungry with good things but has sent the rich away empty.
He has come to the aid of his servant Israel, remembering his mercy, 54 He has helped his servant Israel, remembering to be merciful

They said to her, "None of your relatives have that name." 61 They said to her, "There is no one among your relatives who has that name."
Then they began gesturing to his father to see what he wanted to call him. 62 Then they made signs to his father, to find out what he would like to name the child.
After asking for a tablet, he surprised everyone by writing, "His name is John." 63 He asked for a writing tablet, and to everyone's astonishment he wrote, "His name is John."

All their neighbors were filled with awe, and everyone throughout the Judean highlands talked about what had happened. 65 The neighbors were all filled with awe, and throughout the hill country of Judea people were talking about all these things.
All who heard about this considered it carefully. They said, "What then will this child be?" Indeed, the Lord's power was with him. 66 Everyone who heard this wondered about it, asking, "What then is this child going to be?" For the Lord's hand was with him.
