Luke 20:22-32 RSV/NIV - Online Parallel Bible

Revised Standard Version (RSV) New International Version (NIV)
22 Is it lawful for us to give tribute to Caesar, or not?" 22 Is it right for us to pay taxes to Caesar or not?"
23 But he perceived their craftiness, and said to them, 23 He saw through their duplicity and said to them,
24 "Show me a coin. Whose likeness and inscription has it?" They said, "Caesar's." 24 "Show me a denarius. Whose portrait and inscription are on it?"
25 He said to them, "Then render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's." 25 "Caesar's," they replied. He said to them, "Then give to Caesar what is Caesar's, and to God what is God's."
26 And they were not able in the presence of the people to catch him by what he said; but marveling at his answer they were silent. 26 They were unable to trap him in what he had said there in public. And astonished by his answer, they became silent.

28 and they asked him a question, saying, "Teacher, Moses wrote for us that if a man's brother dies, having a wife but no children, the man must take the wife and raise up children for his brother. 28 "Teacher," they said, "Moses wrote for us that if a man's brother dies and leaves a wife but no children, the man must marry the widow and have children for his brother.
29 Now there were seven brothers; the first took a wife, and died without children; 29 Now there were seven brothers. The first one married a woman and died childless.
