Now on the second-first Sabbath while He was passing through the wheatfields, His disciples were plucking the ears and rubbing them with their hands to eat the grain. 1 One Sabbath Jesus was going through the grainfields, and his disciples began to pick some heads of grain, rub them in their hands and eat the kernels.
And some of the Pharisees asked, "Why are you doing what the Law forbids on the Sabbath?" 2 Some of the Pharisees asked, "Why are you doing what is unlawful on the Sabbath?"
"Have you never read so much as this," answered Jesus--"what David did when he and his followers were hungry; 3 Jesus answered them, "Have you never read what David did when he and his companions were hungry?
how he entered the house of God and took and ate the Presented Loaves and gave some to his followers--loaves which none but the Priests are allowed to eat?" 4 He entered the house of God, and taking the consecrated bread, he ate what is lawful only for priests to eat. And he also gave some to his companions."
"The Son of Man," He added, "is Lord of the Sabbath also." 5 Then Jesus said to them, "The Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath."
On another Sabbath He had gone to the synagogue and was teaching there; and in the congregation was a man whose right arm was withered. 6 On another Sabbath he went into the synagogue and was teaching, and a man was there whose right hand was shriveled.
