The Webster Bible (WBT) New International Version (NIV)
But those husbandmen said among themselves, This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and the inheritance will be ours. 7 "But the tenants said to one another, 'This is the heir. Come, let's kill him, and the inheritance will be ours.'
And they took him, and killed [him], and cast [him] out of the vineyard. 8 So they took him and killed him, and threw him out of the vineyard.
What therefore will the Lord of the vineyard do? he will come and destroy the husbandmen, and will give the vineyard to others. 9 "What then will the owner of the vineyard do? He will come and kill those tenants and give the vineyard to others.
And have ye not read this scripture; The stone which the builders rejected is become the head of the corner: 10 Haven't you read this scripture: " 'The stone the builders rejected has become the capstone;
This was the Lord's doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes? 11 the Lord has done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes' ?"
And they sought to lay hold on him, but feared the people; for they knew that he had spoken the parable against them: and they left him, and departed. 12 Then they looked for a way to arrest him because they knew he had spoken the parable against them. But they were afraid of the crowd; so they left him and went away.
And they sent to him certain of the Pharisees, and of the Herodians, to catch him in [his] words. 13 Later they sent some of the Pharisees and Herodians to Jesus to catch him in his words.
And when they had come, they say to him, Master, we know that thou art true, and carest for no man: for thou regardest not the person of men, but teachest the way of God in truth: Is it lawful to give tribute to Cesar, or not? 14 They came to him and said, "Teacher, we know you are a man of integrity. You aren't swayed by men, because you pay no attention to who they are; but you teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. Is it right to pay taxes to Caesar or not?
Shall we give, or shall we not give? But he, knowing their hypocrisy, said to them, Why tempt ye me? bring me a penny, that I may see [it]. 15 Should we pay or shouldn't we?" But Jesus knew their hypocrisy. "Why are you trying to trap me?" he asked. "Bring me a denarius and let me look at it."
And they brought [it]: and he saith to them, Whose [is] this image and superscription? And they said to him, Cesar's. 16 They brought the coin, and he asked them, "Whose portrait is this? And whose inscription?" "Caesar's," they replied.
And Jesus answering, said to them, Render to Cesar the things that are Cesar's, and to God the things that are God's. And they wondered at him. 17 Then Jesus said to them, "Give to Caesar what is Caesar's and to God what is God's." And they were amazed at him.
