The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham. 1 A record of the genealogy of Jesus Christ the son of David, the son of Abraham:

Jesse became the father of David the king. David became the father of Solomon by her who had been the wife of Uriah. 6 and Jesse the father of King David. David was the father of Solomon, whose mother had been Uriah's wife,
Solomon became the father of Rehoboam. Rehoboam became the father of Abijah. Abijah became the father of Asa. 7 Solomon the father of Rehoboam, Rehoboam the father of Abijah, Abijah the father of Asa,
Asa became the father of Jehoshaphat. Jehoshaphat became the father of Joram. Joram became the father of Uzziah. 8 Asa the father of Jehoshaphat, Jehoshaphat the father of Jehoram, Jehoram the father of Uzziah,
Uzziah became the father of Jotham. Jotham became the father of Ahaz. Ahaz became the father of Hezekiah. 9 Uzziah the father of Jotham, Jotham the father of Ahaz, Ahaz the father of Hezekiah,
Hezekiah became the father of Manasseh. Manasseh became the father of Amon. Amon became the father of Josiah. 10 Hezekiah the father of Manasseh, Manasseh the father of Amon, Amon the father of Josiah,
Josiah became the father of Jechoniah and his brothers, at the time of the exile to Babylon. 11 and Josiah the father of Jeconiah and his brothers at the time of the exile to Babylon.
After the exile to Babylon, Jechoniah became the father of Shealtiel. Shealtiel became the father of Zerubbabel. 12 After the exile to Babylon: Jeconiah was the father of Shealtiel, Shealtiel the father of Zerubbabel,
Zerubbabel became the father of Abiud. Abiud became the father of Eliakim. Eliakim became the father of Azor. 13 Zerubbabel the father of Abiud, Abiud the father of Eliakim, Eliakim the father of Azor,

Jacob became the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary, from whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ. 16 and Jacob the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ.
So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; from David to the exile to Babylon fourteen generations; and from the carrying away to Babylon to the Christ, fourteen generations. 17 Thus there were fourteen generations in all from Abraham to David, fourteen from David to the exile to Babylon, and fourteen from the exile to the Christ.
Now the birth of Jesus Christ was like this; because when his mother, Mary, had been engaged to Joseph, before they came together, she was found pregnant by the Holy Spirit. 18 This is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be with child through the Holy Spirit.
Joseph, her husband, being a righteous man, and not willing to make her a public example, intended to put her away secretly. 19 Because Joseph her husband was a righteous man and did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly.
But when he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, "Joseph, son of David, don't be afraid to take to yourself Mary, your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. 20 But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, "Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.
She shall bring forth a son. You shall call his name JESUS, for it is he who shall save his people from their sins." 21 She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins."
Now all this has happened, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying, 22 All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet:
"Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son. They shall call his name Immanuel;" which is, being interpreted, "God with us." 23 "The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel"--which means, "God with us."
Joseph arose from his sleep, and did as the angel of the Lord commanded him, and took his wife to himself; 24 When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary home as his wife.
and didn't know her sexually until she had brought forth her firstborn son. He named him JESUS. 25 But he had no union with her until she gave birth to a son. And he gave him the name Jesus.
