This was to fulfil what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah: 17 This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah:
"Behold, my servant whom I have chosen, my beloved with whom my soul is well pleased. I will put my Spirit upon him, and he shall proclaim justice to the Gentiles. 18 "Here is my servant whom I have chosen, the one I love, in whom I delight; I will put my Spirit on him, and he will proclaim justice to the nations.
He will not wrangle or cry aloud, nor will any one hear his voice in the streets; 19 He will not quarrel or cry out; no one will hear his voice in the streets.
he will not break a bruised reed or quench a smoldering wick, till he brings justice to victory; 20 A bruised reed he will not break, and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out, till he leads justice to victory.
and in his name will the Gentiles hope." 21 In his name the nations will put their hope."
