New Living Translation (NLT) New International Version (NIV)
Jesus then left Galilee and went north to the region of Tyre and Sidon. 21 Leaving that place, Jesus withdrew to the region of Tyre and Sidon.
A Gentile woman who lived there came to him, pleading, "Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son of David! For my daughter has a demon in her, and it is severely tormenting her." 22 A Canaanite woman from that vicinity came to him, crying out, "Lord, Son of David, have mercy on me! My daughter is suffering terribly from demon-possession."
But Jesus gave her no reply -- not even a word. Then his disciples urged him to send her away. "Tell her to leave," they said. "She is bothering us with all her begging." 23 Jesus did not answer a word. So his disciples came to him and urged him, "Send her away, for she keeps crying out after us."
Then he said to the woman, "I was sent only to help the people of Israel -- God's lost sheep -- not the Gentiles." 24 He answered, "I was sent only to the lost sheep of Israel."
But she came and worshiped him and pleaded again, "Lord, help me!" 25 The woman came and knelt before him. "Lord, help me!" she said.
"It isn't right to take food from the children and throw it to the dogs," he said. 26 He replied, "It is not right to take the children's bread and toss it to their dogs."
"Yes, Lord," she replied, "but even dogs are permitted to eat crumbs that fall beneath their master's table." 27 "Yes, Lord," she said, "but even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their masters' table."
"Woman," Jesus said to her, "your faith is great. Your request is granted." And her daughter was instantly healed. 28 Then Jesus answered, "Woman, you have great faith! Your request is granted." And her daughter was healed from that very hour.
