New Living Translation (NLT) New International Version (NIV)
As he considered this, he fell asleep, and an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream. "Joseph, son of David," the angel said, "do not be afraid to go ahead with your marriage to Mary. For the child within her has been conceived by the Holy Spirit. 20 But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, "Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.
And she will have a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins." 21 She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins."
All of this happened to fulfill the Lord's message through his prophet: 22 All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet:
"Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son, and he will be called Immanuel (meaning, God is with us)." 23 "The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel"--which means, "God with us."
When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord commanded. He brought Mary home to be his wife, 24 When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary home as his wife.
but she remained a virgin until her son was born. And Joseph named him Jesus. 25 But he had no union with her until she gave birth to a son. And he gave him the name Jesus.
