Hebrew Names Version (HNV) New International Version (NIV)
Sha'ul and Timothy, servants of Yeshua the Messiah; To all the holy ones in Messiah Yeshua who are at Philippi, with the overseers and shammashim: 1 Paul and Timothy, servants of Christ Jesus, To all the saints in Christ Jesus at Philippi, together with the overseers and deacons:
Grace to you, and shalom from God, our Father, and the Lord, Yeshua the Messiah. 2 Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
I thank my God whenever I remember you, 3 I thank my God every time I remember you.
always in every request of mine on behalf of you all making my requests with joy, 4 In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy
for your fellowship in furtherance of the Good News from the first day until now; 5 because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now,
being confident of this very thing, that he who began a good work in you will complete it until the day of Yeshua the Messiah. 6 being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.
It is even right for me to think this way on behalf of all of you, because I have you in my heart, inasmuch as, both in my bonds and in the defense and confirmation of the Good News, you all are partakers with me of grace. 7 It is right for me to feel this way about all of you, since I have you in my heart; for whether I am in chains or defending and confirming the gospel, all of you share in God's grace with me.
For God is my witness, how I long after all of you in the tender mercies of Messiah Yeshua. 8 God can testify how I long for all of you with the affection of Christ Jesus.
This I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and all discernment; 9 And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight,
so that you may approve the things that are excellent; that you may be sincere and without offense to the day of Messiah; 10 so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ,
being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are through Yeshua the Messiah, to the glory and praise of God. 11 filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ--to the glory and praise of God.
Now I desire to have you know, brothers, that the things which happened to me have turned out rather to the progress of the Good News; 12 Now I want you to know, brothers, that what has happened to me has really served to advance the gospel.
so that my bonds became revealed in Messiah throughout the whole praetorian guard, and to all the rest; 13 As a result, it has become clear throughout the whole palace guard and to everyone else that I am in chains for Christ.
and that most of the brothers in the Lord, being confident through my bonds, are more abundantly bold to speak the word of God without fear. 14 Because of my chains, most of the brothers in the Lord have been encouraged to speak the word of God more courageously and fearlessly.
Some indeed preach Messiah even out of envy and strife, and some also out of good will. 15 It is true that some preach Christ out of envy and rivalry, but others out of goodwill.
The former preach Messiah from selfish ambition, not sincerely, thinking that they add affliction to my chains; 16 The latter do so in love, knowing that I am put here for the defense of the gospel.
but the latter out of love, knowing that I am appointed for the defense of the Good News. 17 The former preach Christ out of selfish ambition, not sincerely, supposing that they can stir up trouble for me while I am in chains.
What does it matter? Only that in every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Messiah is proclaimed. I rejoice in this, yes, and will rejoice. 18 But what does it matter? The important thing is that in every way, whether from false motives or true, Christ is preached. And because of this I rejoice. Yes, and I will continue to rejoice,
For I know that this will turn out to my salvation, through your supplication and the supply of the Spirit of Yeshua the Messiah, 19 for I know that through your prayers and the help given by the Spirit of Jesus Christ, what has happened to me will turn out for my deliverance.
according to my earnest expectation and hope, that I will in no way be put to shame, but with all boldness, as always, now also Messiah will be magnified in my body, whether by life, or by death. 20 I eagerly expect and hope that I will in no way be ashamed, but will have sufficient courage so that now as always Christ will be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death.
For to me to live is Messiah, and to die is gain. 21 For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.
But if to live in the flesh, this will bring fruit from my work; then I don't make known what I will choose. 22 If I am to go on living in the body, this will mean fruitful labor for me. Yet what shall I choose? I do not know!
But I am in a dilemma between the two, having the desire to depart and be with Messiah, which is far better. 23 I am torn between the two: I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far;
Yet, to remain in the flesh is more needful for your sake. 24 but it is more necessary for you that I remain in the body.
Having this confidence, I know that I will remain, yes, and remain with you all, for your progress and joy in the faith, 25 Convinced of this, I know that I will remain, and I will continue with all of you for your progress and joy in the faith,
that your rejoicing may abound in Messiah Yeshua in me through my presence with you again. 26 so that through my being with you again your joy in Christ Jesus will overflow on account of me.
Only let your manner of life be worthy of the Good News of Messiah, that, whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of your state, that you stand firm in one spirit, with one soul striving for the faith of the Good News; 27 Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ. Then, whether I come and see you or only hear about you in my absence, I will know that you stand firm in one spirit, contending as one man for the faith of the gospel
and in nothing frightened by the adversaries, which is for them a proof of destruction, but to you of salvation, and that from God. 28 without being frightened in any way by those who oppose you. This is a sign to them that they will be destroyed, but that you will be saved--and that by God.
Because it has been granted to you on behalf of Messiah, not only to believe in him, but also to suffer on his behalf, 29 For it has been granted to you on behalf of Christ not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for him,
having the same conflict which you saw in me, and now hear is in me. 30 since you are going through the same struggle you saw I had, and now hear that I still have.
