New Living Translation (NLT) New International Version (NIV)
And in human form he obediently humbled himself even further by dying a criminal's death on a cross. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death-- even death on a cross!
Because of this, God raised him up to the heights of heaven and gave him a name that is above every other name, 9 Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name,
so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Dearest friends, you were always so careful to follow my instructions when I was with you. And now that I am away you must be even more careful to put into action God's saving work in your lives, obeying God with deep reverence and fear. 12 Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed--not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence--continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling,
For God is working in you, giving you the desire to obey him and the power to do what pleases him. 13 for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose.
In everything you do, stay away from complaining and arguing, 14 Do everything without complaining or arguing,
so that no one can speak a word of blame against you. You are to live clean, innocent lives as children of God in a dark world full of crooked and perverse people. Let your lives shine brightly before them. 15 so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe
Hold tightly to the word of life, so that when Christ returns, I will be proud that I did not lose the race and that my work was not useless. 16 as you hold out the word of life--in order that I may boast on the day of Christ that I did not run or labor for nothing.
But even if my life is to be poured out like a drink offering to complete the sacrifice of your faithful service (that is, if I am to die for you), I will rejoice, and I want to share my joy with all of you. 17 But even if I am being poured out like a drink offering on the sacrifice and service coming from your faith, I am glad and rejoice with all of you.
And you should be happy about this and rejoice with me. 18 So you too should be glad and rejoice with me.
