| Third Millennium Bible (TMB) | New International Version (NIV) |
| 1 Whoso loveth instruction loveth knowledge, but he that hateth reproof is brutish. | 1 Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but he who hates correction is stupid. |
| 2 A good man obtaineth favor of the LORD, but a man of wicked devices will He condemn. | 2 A good man obtains favor from the LORD, but the LORD condemns a crafty man. |
| 3 A man shall not be established by wickedness, but the root of the righteous shall not be moved. | 3 A man cannot be established through wickedness, but the righteous cannot be uprooted. |
| 4 A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband, but she that causeth shame is rottenness in his bones. | 4 A wife of noble character is her husband's crown, but a disgraceful wife is like decay in his bones. |
| 5 The thoughts of the righteous are right, but the counsels of the wicked are deceit. | 5 The plans of the righteous are just, but the advice of the wicked is deceitful. |
| 6 The counsels of the wicked are to lie in wait for blood, but the mouths of the upright shall deliver them. | 6 The words of the wicked lie in wait for blood, but the speech of the upright rescues them. |
| 7 The wicked are overthrown and are no more, but the house of the righteous shall stand. | 7 Wicked men are overthrown and are no more, but the house of the righteous stands firm. |
| 8 A man shall be commended according to his wisdom, but he that is of a perverse heart shall be despised. | 8 A man is praised according to his wisdom, but men with warped minds are despised. |
| 9 He that is lowly and hath a servant is better off than he that honoreth himself and lacketh bread. | 9 Better to be a nobody and yet have a servant than pretend to be somebody and have no food. |
| 10 A righteous man hath regard for the life of his beast, but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel. | 10 A righteous man cares for the needs of his animal, but the kindest acts of the wicked are cruel. |
| 11 He that tilleth his land shall be satisfied with bread, but he that followeth vain persons is void of understanding. | 11 He who works his land will have abundant food, but he who chases fantasies lacks judgment. |
| 12 The wicked desireth the net of evil men, but the root of the righteous yieldeth fruit. | 12 The wicked desire the plunder of evil men, but the root of the righteous flourishes. |
| 13 The wicked is snared by the transgression of his lips, but the just shall come out of trouble. | 13 An evil man is trapped by his sinful talk, but a righteous man escapes trouble. |
| 14 A man shall be satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth, and the recompense of a man's hands shall be rendered unto him. | 14 From the fruit of his lips a man is filled with good things as surely as the work of his hands rewards him. |
| 15 The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise. | 15 The way of a fool seems right to him, but a wise man listens to advice. |
| 16 A fool's wrath is known at once, but a prudent man covereth shame. | 16 A fool shows his annoyance at once, but a prudent man overlooks an insult. |
| 17 He that speaketh truth showeth forth righteousness, but a false witness, deceit. | 17 A truthful witness gives honest testimony, but a false witness tells lies. |
| 18 There is he that speaketh like the piercings of a sword, but the tongue of the wise is healing. | 18 Reckless words pierce like a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing. |
| 19 The lips of truth shall be established for ever, but a lying tongue is but for a moment. | 19 Truthful lips endure forever, but a lying tongue lasts only a moment. |
| 20 Deceit is in the heart of them that imagine evil, but to the counselors of peace there is joy. | 20 There is deceit in the hearts of those who plot evil, but joy for those who promote peace. |
| 21 There shall no evil happen to the just, but the wicked shall be filled with troubles. | 21 No harm befalls the righteous, but the wicked have their fill of trouble. |
| 22 Lying lips are an abomination to the LORD, but they that deal truly are His delight. | 22 The LORD detests lying lips, but he delights in men who are truthful. |
| 23 A prudent man concealeth knowledge, but the heart of fools proclaimeth foolishness. | 23 A prudent man keeps his knowledge to himself, but the heart of fools blurts out folly. |
| 24 The hand of the diligent shall exercise rule, but the slothful shall be under tribute. | 24 Diligent hands will rule, but laziness ends in slave labor. |
| 25 Heaviness in the heart of man maketh it stoop, but a good word maketh it glad. | 25 An anxious heart weighs a man down, but a kind word cheers him up. |
| 26 The righteous is more excellent than his neighbor, but the way of the wicked seduceth them. | 26 A righteous man is cautious in friendship, but the way of the wicked leads them astray. |
| 27 The slothful man roasteth not that which he took in hunting, but the substance of a diligent man is precious. | 27 The lazy man does not roast his game, but the diligent man prizes his possessions. |
| 28 In the way of righteousness is life, and in the pathway thereof there is no death. | 28 In the way of righteousness there is life; along that path is immortality. |
