Wisdom crieth without; she uttereth her voice in the streets. 20 Wisdom calls aloud in the street, she raises her voice in the public squares;
She crieth in the chief places of concourse, in the openings of the gates; in the city she uttereth her words, saying, 21 at the head of the noisy streets she cries out, in the gateways of the city she makes her speech:
"How long, ye simple ones, will ye love to be simple, and the scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge? 22 "How long will you simple ones love your simple ways? How long will mockers delight in mockery and fools hate knowledge?
Turn you at my reproof: Behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you; I will make known my words unto you. 23 If you had responded to my rebuke, I would have poured out my heart to you and made my thoughts known to you.
"Because I have called and ye refused, I have stretched out my hand and no man heeded, 24 But since you rejected me when I called and no one gave heed when I stretched out my hand,
but ye have set at nought all my counsel and would have none of my reproof, 25 since you ignored all my advice and would not accept my rebuke,
I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh, 26 I in turn will laugh at your disaster; I will mock when calamity overtakes you--
when your fear cometh as desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind, when distress and anguish cometh upon you. 27 when calamity overtakes you like a storm, when disaster sweeps over you like a whirlwind, when distress and trouble overwhelm you.
Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me, 28 "Then they will call to me but I will not answer; they will look for me but will not find me.
because they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD. 29 Since they hated knowledge and did not choose to fear the LORD,
They would have none of my counsel, and they despised all my reproof: 30 since they would not accept my advice and spurned my rebuke,
therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own ways, and be filled with their own devices. 31 they will eat the fruit of their ways and be filled with the fruit of their schemes.
For the turning away of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them; 32 For the waywardness of the simple will kill them, and the complacency of fools will destroy them;
but whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall have quiet from fear of evil." 33 but whoever listens to me will live in safety and be at ease, without fear of harm."
