Don't brag about tomorrow. You don't know what a day will bring. 1 Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring forth.
Let another person praise you, and not your own mouth. Let someone else praise you, and not your own lips. 2 Let another praise you, and not your own mouth; someone else, and not your own lips.
Stones are heavy. Sand weighs a lot. But letting a foolish person make you angry is a heavier load than both of them. 3 Stone is heavy and sand a burden, but provocation by a fool is heavier than both.
Anger is mean. Great anger overpowers you. But who can face jealousy? 4 Anger is cruel and fury overwhelming, but who can stand before jealousy?
Being warned openly is better than being loved in secret. 5 Better is open rebuke than hidden love.
Wounds from a friend can be trusted. But an enemy kisses you many times. 6 Wounds from a friend can be trusted, but an enemy multiplies kisses.
