| The Webster Bible (WBT) | New International Version (NIV) |
| 14 Frowardness [is] in his heart, he deviseth mischief continually; he soweth discord. | 14 who plots evil with deceit in his heart-- he always stirs up dissension. |
| 15 Therefore shall his calamity come suddenly; suddenly shall he be broken without remedy. | 15 Therefore disaster will overtake him in an instant; he will suddenly be destroyed--without remedy. |
| 16 These six [things] doth the LORD hate: yes, seven [are] an abomination to him: | 16 There are six things the LORD hates, seven that are detestable to him: |
| 17 A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood. | 17 haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, |
| 18 A heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that are swift in running to mischief, | 18 a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, |
| 19 A false witness [that] speaketh lies, and him that soweth discord among brethren. | 19 a false witness who pours out lies and a man who stirs up dissension among brothers. |
| 20 My son, keep thy father's commandment, and forsake not the law of thy mother: | 20 My son, keep your father's commands and do not forsake your mother's teaching. |
| 21 Bind them continually upon thy heart, [and] tie them about thy neck. | 21 Bind them upon your heart forever; fasten them around your neck. |
| 22 When thou goest, it shall lead thee; when thou sleepest, it shall keep thee; and [when] thou awakest, it shall talk with thee. | 22 When you walk, they will guide you; when you sleep, they will watch over you; when you awake, they will speak to you. |
| 23 For the commandment [is] a lamp; and the law [is] light; and reproofs of instruction [are] the way of life: | 23 For these commands are a lamp, this teaching is a light, and the corrections of discipline are the way to life, |
| 24 To keep thee from the evil woman, from the flattery of the tongue of a strange woman. | 24 keeping you from the immoral woman, from the smooth tongue of the wayward wife. |
