Let the redeemed by the LORD say so, Whom he has redeemed from the hand of the adversary, 2 Let the redeemed of the LORD say this-- those he redeemed from the hand of the foe,
Gathered out of the lands, From the east and from the west, From the north and from the south. 3 those he gathered from the lands, from east and west, from north and south.
They wandered in the wilderness in a desert way. They found no city to live in. 4 Some wandered in desert wastelands, finding no way to a city where they could settle.
Hungry and thirsty, Their soul fainted in them. 5 They were hungry and thirsty, and their lives ebbed away.
Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, And he delivered them out of their distresses, 6 Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress.
He led them also by a straight way, That they might go to a city to live in. 7 He led them by a straight way to a city where they could settle.
Let them praise the LORD for his lovingkindness, For his wonderful works to the children of men! 8 Let them give thanks to the LORD for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for men,
For he satisfies the longing soul. He fills the hungry soul with good. 9 for he satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things.
Some sat in darkness and in the shadow of death, Being bound in affliction and iron, 10 Some sat in darkness and the deepest gloom, prisoners suffering in iron chains,
Because they rebelled against the words of God, And condemned the counsel of Ha`Elyon. 11 for they had rebelled against the words of God and despised the counsel of the Most High.
Therefore he brought down their heart with labor. They fell down, and there was none to help. 12 So he subjected them to bitter labor; they stumbled, and there was no one to help.
Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, And he saved them out of their distresses. 13 Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, and he saved them from their distress.
He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death, And broke their bonds in sunder. 14 He brought them out of darkness and the deepest gloom and broke away their chains.
Let them praise the LORD for his lovingkindness, For his wonderful works to the children of men! 15 Let them give thanks to the LORD for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for men,
For he has broken the gates of brass, And cut through bars of iron. 16 for he breaks down gates of bronze and cuts through bars of iron.
Fools are afflicted because of their disobedience, And because of their iniquities. 17 Some became fools through their rebellious ways and suffered affliction because of their iniquities.
Their soul abhors all kinds of food. They draw near to the gates of death. 18 They loathed all food and drew near the gates of death.
Then they cry to the LORD in their trouble, He saves them out of their distresses. 19 Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, and he saved them from their distress.
He sends his word, and heals them, And delivers them from their graves. 20 He sent forth his word and healed them; he rescued them from the grave.
Let them praise the LORD for his lovingkindness, For his wonderful works to the children of men! 21 Let them give thanks to the LORD for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for men.

Those who go down to the sea in ships, Who do business in great waters; 23 Others went out on the sea in ships; they were merchants on the mighty waters.
These see the LORD's works, And his wonders in the deep. 24 They saw the works of the LORD, his wonderful deeds in the deep.
For he commands, and raises the stormy wind, Which lifts up its waves. 25 For he spoke and stirred up a tempest that lifted high the waves.
They mount up to the sky; they go down again to the depths. Their soul melts away because of trouble. 26 They mounted up to the heavens and went down to the depths; in their peril their courage melted away.
They reel back and forth, and stagger like a drunken man, And are at their wits' end. 27 They reeled and staggered like drunken men; they were at their wits' end.
Then they cry to the LORD in their trouble, He brings them out of their distress. 28 Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble, and he brought them out of their distress.
He makes the storm a calm, So that its waves are still. 29 He stilled the storm to a whisper; the waves of the sea were hushed.
Then are they glad because it is calm, So he brings them to their desired haven. 30 They were glad when it grew calm, and he guided them to their desired haven.
Let them praise the LORD for his lovingkindness, For his wonderful works to the children of men! 31 Let them give thanks to the LORD for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for men.

He turns rivers into a desert, Water springs into a thirsty ground, 33 He turned rivers into a desert, flowing springs into thirsty ground,
And a fruitful land into a salt waste, For the wickedness of those who dwell in it. 34 and fruitful land into a salt waste, because of the wickedness of those who lived there.
He turns a desert into a pool of water, And a dry land into water springs. 35 He turned the desert into pools of water and the parched ground into flowing springs;

He blesses them also, so that they are multiplied greatly. He doesn't allow their cattle to decrease. 38 he blessed them, and their numbers greatly increased, and he did not let their herds diminish.
Again, they are diminished and bowed down Through oppression, trouble, and sorrow. 39 Then their numbers decreased, and they were humbled by oppression, calamity and sorrow;
