Oh give thanks to the LORD , for He is good, For His lovingkindness is everlasting. 1 Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever.
Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, Whom He has redeemed from the hand of the adversary 2 Let the redeemed of the LORD say this-- those he redeemed from the hand of the foe,
And gathered from the lands, From the east and from the west, From the north and from the south. 3 those he gathered from the lands, from east and west, from north and south.
They wandered in the wilderness in a desert region; They did not find a way to an inhabited city. 4 Some wandered in desert wastelands, finding no way to a city where they could settle.
They were hungry and thirsty; Their soul fainted within them. 5 They were hungry and thirsty, and their lives ebbed away.
Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble; He delivered them out of their distresses. 6 Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress.
He led them also by a straight way, To go to an inhabited city. 7 He led them by a straight way to a city where they could settle.
Let them give thanks to the LORD for His lovingkindness, And for His wonders to the sons of men! 8 Let them give thanks to the LORD for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for men,
For He has satisfied the thirsty soul, And the hungry soul He has filled with what is good. 9 for he satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things.
There were those who dwelt in darkness and in the shadow of death, Prisoners in misery and chains, 10 Some sat in darkness and the deepest gloom, prisoners suffering in iron chains,
Because they had rebelled against the words of God And spurned the counsel of the Most High. 11 for they had rebelled against the words of God and despised the counsel of the Most High.
Therefore He humbled their heart with labor; They stumbled and there was none to help. 12 So he subjected them to bitter labor; they stumbled, and there was no one to help.
Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble; He saved them out of their distresses. 13 Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, and he saved them from their distress.
He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death And broke their bands apart. 14 He brought them out of darkness and the deepest gloom and broke away their chains.
Let them give thanks to the LORD for His lovingkindness, And for His wonders to the sons of men! 15 Let them give thanks to the LORD for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for men,
For He has shattered gates of bronze And cut bars of iron asunder. 16 for he breaks down gates of bronze and cuts through bars of iron.
Fools, because of their rebellious way, And because of their iniquities, were afflicted. 17 Some became fools through their rebellious ways and suffered affliction because of their iniquities.
Their soul abhorred all kinds of food, And they drew near to the gates of death. 18 They loathed all food and drew near the gates of death.
Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble; He saved them out of their distresses. 19 Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, and he saved them from their distress.
He sent His word and healed them, And delivered them from their destructions. 20 He sent forth his word and healed them; he rescued them from the grave.
Let them give thanks to the LORD for His lovingkindness, And for His wonders to the sons of men! 21 Let them give thanks to the LORD for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for men.
Let them also offer sacrifices of thanksgiving, And tell of His works with joyful singing. 22 Let them sacrifice thank offerings and tell of his works with songs of joy.
Those who go down to the sea in ships, Who do business on great waters; 23 Others went out on the sea in ships; they were merchants on the mighty waters.
They have seen the works of the LORD , And His wonders in the deep. 24 They saw the works of the LORD, his wonderful deeds in the deep.
For He spoke and raised up a stormy wind, Which lifted up the waves of the sea. 25 For he spoke and stirred up a tempest that lifted high the waves.
They rose up to the heavens, they went down to the depths; Their soul melted away in their misery. 26 They mounted up to the heavens and went down to the depths; in their peril their courage melted away.
They reeled and staggered like a drunken man, And were at their wits' end. 27 They reeled and staggered like drunken men; they were at their wits' end.
Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, And He brought them out of their distresses. 28 Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble, and he brought them out of their distress.
He caused the storm to be still, So that the waves of the sea were hushed. 29 He stilled the storm to a whisper; the waves of the sea were hushed.
Then they were glad because they were quiet, So He guided them to their desired haven. 30 They were glad when it grew calm, and he guided them to their desired haven.
Let them give thanks to the LORD for His lovingkindness, And for His wonders to the sons of men! 31 Let them give thanks to the LORD for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for men.
Let them extol Him also in the congregation of the people, And praise Him at the seat of the elders. 32 Let them exalt him in the assembly of the people and praise him in the council of the elders.
He changes rivers into a wilderness And springs of water into a thirsty ground; 33 He turned rivers into a desert, flowing springs into thirsty ground,
A fruitful land into a salt waste, Because of the wickedness of those who dwell in it. 34 and fruitful land into a salt waste, because of the wickedness of those who lived there.
He changes a wilderness into a pool of water And a dry land into springs of water; 35 He turned the desert into pools of water and the parched ground into flowing springs;
And there He makes the hungry to dwell, So that they may establish an inhabited city, 36 there he brought the hungry to live, and they founded a city where they could settle.
And sow fields and plant vineyards, And gather a fruitful harvest. 37 They sowed fields and planted vineyards that yielded a fruitful harvest;
Also He blesses them and they multiply greatly, And He does not let their cattle decrease. 38 he blessed them, and their numbers greatly increased, and he did not let their herds diminish.
When they are diminished and bowed down Through oppression, misery and sorrow, 39 Then their numbers decreased, and they were humbled by oppression, calamity and sorrow;
He pours contempt upon princes And makes them wander in a pathless waste. 40 he who pours contempt on nobles made them wander in a trackless waste.
But He sets the needy securely on high away from affliction, And makes his families like a flock. 41 But he lifted the needy out of their affliction and increased their families like flocks.
The upright see it and are glad; But all unrighteousness shuts its mouth. 42 The upright see and rejoice, but all the wicked shut their mouths.
Who is wise? Let him give heed to these things, And consider the lovingkindnesses of the LORD . 43 Whoever is wise, let him heed these things and consider the great love of the LORD.
